Although production for The Mandalorian Season 2 has gotten underway at the famous The Volume soundstage, leading man Pedro Pascal (bounty hunter Din Djarin) isn’t present right now.

The actor confirmed on Twitter that he is currently working on the HBO adaptation of popular PlayStation video game, The Last of Us:

“I got you, baby girl.” The @HBO adaptation of #TheLastofUs is in production @PlayStation @Naughty_Dog #TLOUDay #HappyBirthdayJoel

A description of The Last of Us, which also stars Pascal’s former Game of Thrones — he played Prince Oberyn Martell — castmate, Bella Ramsey, reads, in part:

Based on the popular PlayStation video game of the same name, the HBO series takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed by a deadly fungus. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, played by “Game of Thrones” actor Bella Ramsey, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival…

…The cast includes Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy, Nico Parker as Joel’s daughter Sarah, and Merle Dandridge reprises her video game role of Marlene, the leader of the Fireflies resistance group struggling for power against the government’s military regime.

It is worth noting that Moff Gideon actor Giancarlo Esposito previously confirmed that Pascal was “not needed” for The Mandalorian Season 3 to begin filming.

Since Pascal’s Djarin frequently wears his beskar helmet, it is likely that his double, John Wayne’s grandson Brendan Wayne, is currently filming the bounty hunter’s scenes.

As for what’s next in The Mandalorian, Peyton Reed’s Season 2 finale episode featured the return of Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker (CGI Mark Hamill), the separation of Djarin and Grogu (AKA “Baby Yoda”) as the latter left to complete his Jedi Order training, the capture of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), and the announcement of spinoff series The Book of Boba Fett, which we now know will premiere on Disney+ on December 29, 2021.

In spite of rumored debut dates, the debut of Grogu’s official yellow lightsaber, and confirmation from Katee Sackhoff that Bo-Katan Kryze will return, very little is actually known about the upcoming third season of showrunner Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni’s hit series.

It is, however, likely that the ongoing Darksaber storyline will play a key role moving forward. Djarin won the black-bladed Mandalorian weapon in battle with Gideon while freeing Grogu in “Episode 16: The Rescue”, making him the de facto ruler of planet Mandalore.

Furthermore, in addition to The Book of Boba Fett, another spinoff series, Ahsoka — starring Rosario Dawson reprising her role as Ahsoka Tano — is slated to air concurrently with The Mandalorian Season 3, per Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy’s 2020 Disney Investor Day announcement last December.

Fired actress Gina Carano was also expected to lead her own spinoff series, Rangers of the New Republic, but it has been put on indefinite hold.

When do you think Pedro Pascal will finally make his way to The Mandalorian Season 3 set?
