Although the full cast list for Deborah Chow’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series dropped several months ago — with names like Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse (Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace), and Rupert Friend (Homeland) alongside Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen — there is still plenty of room for this new Star Wars story to surprise us.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that the series will feature the “rematch of the century”, so there’s undoubtedly another lightsaber duel to come. And, now, a new rumor indicates that Princess Leia Organa may play a major role in the upcoming show, although we don’t know in precisely what capacity:

Leia is a part of Kenobi in a big way. In fact, from what I’ve heard, the stuff dealing with Leia is pretty much the impetus for the whole show and what gets Obi-Wan (Ben) into another adventure.

The report goes on to indicate that young actress Vivien Lyra Blair (Bird Box, We Can Be Heroes) will be playing Leia in the Kenobi series. Since we are already expecting to see more of Luke Skywalker’s childhood in Obi-Wan Kenobi, it would be unsurprising if Leia (Carrie Fisher) is, in fact, reintroduced into the Star Wars universe.

And, it opens the door for an even more exciting possibility — Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) to potentially make her debut as Princess Leia in another series down the road.

Ever since an impressive deepfake video featuring Brown as the Rebel Princess surfaced earlier this year, she’s been a frontrunner to eventually take on the role of the iconic Star Wars character, much like fans desperately want Marvel star Sebastian Stan to play Luke Skywalker during the original trilogy era.

The video featuring Brown can be viewed in full below:

As far as upcoming Star Wars shows that could feature Princess Leia during the original trilogy years, there are a couple of possibilities. Diego Luna’s Rogue One prequel series, Andor, will be set about five years before Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977).

Since Princess Leia made a CGI cameo in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), this could be the ideal place for Brown to show up as the fan-favorite Star Wars character.

Furthermore, ever since Luke Skywalker (CGI Mark Hamill) was reintroduced to the Star Wars franchise during Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni’s Mandalorian Season 2 finale episode (“Chapter 16: The Rescue”) — he saved Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), Grogu (AKA “Baby Yoda”), Cara Dune (Gina Carano), Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), and Koska Reeves (Sasha Banks) from certain doom –, there have been rumors of a Luke Skywalker series starring the aforementioned Stan, and possibly featuring Brie Larson as Luke’s Star Wars Legends wife, Mara Jade Skywalker.

If this series comes to fruition — and if it takes place during The Mandalorian‘s place in the Star Wars timeline, after Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983) — it could be the perfect opportunity for Brown to get her chance to make her Star Wars debut.

At this time, nothing about either Blair or Brown playing a young Leia has been confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm.

Are you looking forward to Obi-Wan Kenobi? Would you like to see more of Princess Leia’s backstory in the future?
