Although the full cast list for Deborah Chow’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series dropped several months ago — with names like Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse (Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace), and Rupert Friend (Homeland) alongside Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen — there is still plenty of room for this new Star Wars story to surprise us.
Set on Tatooine approximately 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005) — including the execution of Emperor Palpatine’s Order 66 — Obi-Wan Kenobi will follow McGregor’s Jedi Master and Christensen’s Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker a decade after their lightsaber battle on Mustafar.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that the series will feature the “rematch of the century”, so there’s undoubtedly another lightsaber duel to come. And, now, a new rumor indicates that Princess Leia Organa may play a major role in the upcoming show, although we don’t know in precisely what capacity:
Leia is a part of Kenobi in a big way. In fact, from what I’ve heard, the stuff dealing with Leia is pretty much the impetus for the whole show and what gets Obi-Wan (Ben) into another adventure.
The report goes on to indicate that young actress Vivien Lyra Blair (Bird Box, We Can Be Heroes) will be playing Leia in the Kenobi series. Since we are already expecting to see more of Luke Skywalker’s childhood in Obi-Wan Kenobi, it would be unsurprising if Leia (Carrie Fisher) is, in fact, reintroduced into the Star Wars universe.
And, it opens the door for an even more exciting possibility — Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) to potentially make her debut as Princess Leia in another series down the road.
Ever since an impressive deepfake video featuring Brown as the Rebel Princess surfaced earlier this year, she’s been a frontrunner to eventually take on the role of the iconic Star Wars character, much like fans desperately want Marvel star Sebastian Stan to play Luke Skywalker during the original trilogy era.
The video featuring Brown can be viewed in full below:
Since Princess Leia made a CGI cameo in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), this could be the ideal place for Brown to show up as the fan-favorite Star Wars character.
