Mark Hamill is asking for support from his social media followers in hopes of making Luke Skywalker’s return to Star Wars on The Mandalorian Season 2 finale an award-winning moment.

Mark Hamill took to social media to make the case for Luke Skywalker’s thrilling cameo on The Mandalorian as worthy of official recognition. In Chapter 16, “The Rescue,” The Mandalorian’s second season finale closed with Jedi Master Luke Skywalker mowing down Dark Troopers with his signature green lightsaber, R2-D2 in tow, on his way to pick up Grogu for Jedi training.
Star Wars fans presumed that a Jedi would be coming to save the day at some point after Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) refused to train Baby Yoda earlier in the season, telling Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) that Grogu should reach out through the Force to connect with another Jedi. However, the reveal of a hooded Luke Skywalker appearing at a critical moment proved to be a defining moment for The Mandalorian as a series, and for Star Wars lore. Reportedly, he scene not only astonished Star Wars fans, but even showrunner Jon Favreau as well.

Mark Hamill took to Twitter to enlist the help of legions of fans and social media followers in voting this historic TV moment for a prestigious BAFTA award. In his appeal, Hamill shared the now-famous image of Luke Skywalker’s darkened silhouette with his green lightsaber glowing, saying:
“This is the ONLY @BAFTA category chosen by the public in the UK. It would be an honor if the fans picked Luke’s surprise appearance to pick up Grogu as a Must-See. If you wish to vote go to virginmedia.com/bafta & thanks for being the best fans in the galaxy! @themandalorian”

The beloved Luke Skywalker cameo certainly has a great chance of winning. Fans were electrified to see Star Wars legend Luke Skywalker — looking just as he did in the original trilogy — interact with new Star Wars favorites “Mando,” Grogu, and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff). The fan fervor was particularly heightened after the mixed reviews of Hamill’s controversial storyline as Luke Skywalker in the sequel trilogy The Last Jedi (2017.)
With Star Wars Day, May the Fourth, right around the corner — and, with it, the premiere of the latest Disney+ Star Wars series, The Bad Batch — be sure to follow Inside The Magic for the latest Star Wars updates.
