Scottish actor Ewan McGregor is currently filming the upcoming Deborah Chow-directed Obi-Wan Kenobi series that is set to debut on Disney+ sometime in 2022. McGregor, a Star Wars fan-favorite, will reprise his prequel trilogy role as the Jedi Master. He last portrayed Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode III – The Phantom Menace (2005).
Hayden Christensen is also set to reprise his prequel trilogy role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Anakin, of course, was Obi-Wan’s Padawan before he descended to the dark side and became a Sith Lord under the tutelage of Sheev Palpatine/Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid).

Details about the highly anticipated Star Wars show have been kept largely under wraps. However, during the 2020 Disney Investor Day event in December 2020, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the series will take place about ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and that fans have the “rematch of the century” to look forward to.
Presumably, this means that Kenobi and Vader will have another lightsaber showdown.

Now, McGregor has given Star Wars fans another sneak peek of what to expect when Obi-Wan Kenobi finally debuts. In a Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance, McGregor remained mum about plot specifics — though he shared he shot a scene with “someone special in [his] life” — but did show off the scruffy look Obi-Wan will apparently be sporting in the limited series.

The actor also confirmed that Obi-Wan’s costume will be different from when we last saw him — a curious admission since Alec Guinness wore a very similar outfit when moviegoers were first introduced to old Ben Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977).
Since the Jedi Knight has exiled himself on Tatooine following Anakin becoming Darth Vader and Order 66 and the purge of the Jedi Order, it does make sense, however. that he will look a bit more unkempt than usual in the upcoming miniseries. After all, he’s facing one of the most stressful situations of anyone’s life.

At this time, the exact release date of Obi-Wan Kenobi is unknown. Star Wars fans can currently watch the new animated series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, on Disney+ and can look ahead to the new Mandalorian spinoff, The Book of Boba Fett, this December.
