If you’re a Star Wars fan — and, frankly, even if you’re not — you probably know how hard it is to go into any retail store without seeing merchandise featuring Grogu (AKA “Baby Yoda”), Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin, the Darksaber, or the Razor Crest on the shelves.
The hit Disney+ Original Star Wars show, which was deemed 100 times more popular than the average American television series by the end of its first season, has helped keep both Hasbro and The Walt Disney Company afloat throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, stolen Mandalorian LEGO products have become part of a major stolen goods trafficking sting in downtown Seattle, Washington. Per a news report about the ongoing situation:
A store owner in downtown Seattle was arrested on Friday for trafficking stolen Star Wars LEGOs, among other items.
Seattle police say “Operation: MandalOrganized Retail Theft” began in late July after receiving reports of a repeat shoplifter who was making off with LEGO sets, specifically “The Mandalorian” Star Wars LEGO sets. The store estimated that it had lost about $10,000 worth of LEGOs between July and September.
The article noted that store employees helped to identify the shoplifter, who was taken into police custody. Then, however, the situation got more complex, when it became apparent that the shoplifter and the retail outlet’s owner were working together:
While a Seattle detective was at the store investigating, the identified shoplifter arrived and sold items to the shop’s owner.
Police determined the shop’s owner was knowingly trafficking stolen goods, including the LEGO sets.
Officers served a warrant on Friday, Oct. 15 and seized thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen merchandise, including 171 Lego sets.
It is, however, likely that the ongoing Darksaber storyline will play a key role moving forward. Djarin won the black-bladed ancient Mandalorian weapon in battle with Gideon while freeing Grogu in “Episode 16: The Rescue”, making him the de facto ruler of planet Mandalore.
For now, all we can do is wait and see where the third season of Djarin’s adventures across the Star Wars galaxy takes us.
What do you think about this wild Mandalorian LEGO trafficking scheme
