With filming for The Mandalorian Season 3 already underway and Lucasfilm executives adamant that fired actress Gina Carano will not be recast, it seems likely that New Republic Marshal Cara Dune won’t be making an appearance in the third season of showrunner Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni’s hit Star Wars series.

Carano was let go by Lucasfilm, Ltd. and The Walt Disney Company following a series of controversial Tweets throughout The Mandalorian Season 2. Her firing derailed one of three planned Mandalorian spinoffs — Rangers of the New Republic, which Carano was set to star in, has been placed indefinite hold.

Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka Tano), and The Book of Boba Fett, debuting on December 29, 2021, with Temuera Morrison (Boba Fett) and Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand), are still greenlit.

Even though Carano’s costars, including Mandalorian leading man Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin)Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze), and Wen, supported her throughout the drama that followed her last year, it wasn’t enough to save the former women’s MMA and Muay Thai fighter’s job in the Star Wars franchise.

However, the online rumor mill is swirling with reports that Carano will be returning to the Star Wars galaxy in The Mandalorian Season 4.

This tracks with the fact that Jon Favreau himself has seemingly gone to bat for the daughter of NFL quarterback Glenn Carano and that actor Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) has previously teased four seasons of The Mandalorian.

Fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts about Carano’s potential return. Jason M Tallman posted:

@ginacarano I read today you may be in the Mandalorin [sic: Mandalorian] season 4 I hope it is true any truth to this ? Message me

Schmunzelfee shared a poignant post about Cara Dune’s potential return:

@ginacarano you will be missed in Mandalorian season 3. Hope to see you back for season 4. You simply are Cara Dune and I can not imagine the story without her as my fav character and you as the great actress playing her. You are amazing. [love] from Germany

However, Not everyone is convinced that Carano’s rumored return is legitimate. NoteMunch shared a skeptical viewpoint:

According to insider sources, @ginacarano may be reprising her role as Cara Dune in season 4 of The Mandalorian. Supposedly, it will take place roughly seven years after the third season, which is in the making — Sounds like BS

Although the report referenced by NoteMunch is unconfirmed, it is intriguing because leading man Pascal previously indicated that a time jump would occur at some point in the series.

It is important to note that the actress and any representatives from The Walt Disney Company have confirmed nothing about Carano’s return. At this time, any reports of Cara Dune coming back to the Star Wars universe are purely online speculation.

One thing we know for sure, though, is that we won’t have to wait long to find out what happens in the “next chapter” of The Mandalorian when The Book of Boba Fett airs later this year.

Do you think Gina Carano is coming back to Star Wars soon?
