Tom Holland is Hollywood’s leading man, boosted into the spotlight with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and upcoming Marvel movie Spider-Man: No Way Home. Every Marvel fan wants the actor to stay, but Holland recently disclosed that key actors in No Way Home were hesitant to join.
But which stars was he talking about? Fans have the answer.
It’s no secret that Tom Holland’s current Marvel contract ends with Spider-Man: No Way Home. While the lead was always attached to the project, Holland confirmed to GQ that key actors (and possible mystery stars) were hesitant to join the Marvel movie:
“Some people were trying to figure out whether they wanted to do it, and we needed all of them or none.”
Shaking up the Marvel Collection is Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Lizard (Rhys Ifans), Electro (Jaime Foxx), and Sandman (Thomas Haden Church). Nonetheless, fans know that Marvel is holding out on two key players: Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man.
Thanks to Tom Holland’s social media, the Marvel community learned that filming for No Way Home began in November 2020.
Combining that timeline and Holland’s latest statement from GQ, it’s clear that rumors about Tobey Maguire holding off to join the ambitious Spider-Man movie could be true.
According to rumors, Maguire reportedly signed onto the film late into production and began filming scenes months after Tom Holland hit the stage in the Spidey suit.
Further connecting the dots between who Tom Holland was referring to and Tobey Maguire’s late arrival to set is the fact that No Way Home is featuring five villains from two previous franchises — Tom Holland’s Spider-Man definitely needs more help.
Nonetheless, an interesting editing mistake in a Brazilian No Way Home trailer confirms that there will be three “Spider-Men” jumping towards the iconic characters Electro, Sandman, and Lizard towards the end of the film:
Yes, three Spideys vs. three villains. One of them punch kick Lizard

In the Brazilian No Way Home trailer, fans noticed that Lizard is kicked by an “invisible” force, signaling that Marvel/Sony Pictures digitally removed Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man from the frame, as the villain is lunging nowhere near the only Spider-Man on screen: Tom Holland.
Tom Holland, of course, could be referring to fellow co-stars Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, or more.
However, it’s likely that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were waiting to sign onto Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Marvel is ready to show them in theaters on December 17, 2021!
More about Spider-Man: No Way Home
The Marvel Universe is becoming much more than Marvel Characters/Earth’s Mightiest Heroes like Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers (Brie Larson).
Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are set to appear in No Way Home. Seeing the two characters join the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the big screen will have a more significant impact on the Marvel Universe than Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Tom Holland is leading the way for Marvel Cinematic Universe newcomers Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac), Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany), Thena (Angelina Jolie), and more.
Entering into a whole new universe (thanks to the Multiverse spawned by Loki), three Peter Parkers (Maguire, Garfield, and Tom Holland) are defending Marvel’s New York against the Sinister Six, led by Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin.
In No Way Home, Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man) and Zendaya (MJ) are joined by Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Stephen Strange), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), and the villain with great power Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus.
Every Marvel fan can watch Marvel’s New York explode with the Multiverse and witness great power from three Spider-Men on the big screen on December 17, 2021!
