The Marvel Cinematic Universe ushered in a new era of superheroes in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), particularly Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s respective Marvel characters. Cracking open the Marvel collection like never before, every Marvel fan is ready to see more of these Spider-Man actors in action, and new reports suggest that Tobey Maguire wants to be in the suit full-time again.

Uniting for a record-breaking box office run, seeing Garfield and Maguire’s Peter Parker interact with TomHolland’s super hero was a match made in Heaven.

With numerous reports coming from Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios insiders about the future of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s iconic characters, signs are pointing to Maguire appearing within the MCU again in upcoming series, to even starring in the infamous Spider-Man 4 that never was:

Tobey Maguire loves Spider-Man and wanted to continue to play the character. He was upset Spider-Man 4 got canceled.

Rumor: Tobey wants to return as Spider-Man in future films given the right script. Preferably with Sam Raimi.

In the above video, Tobey Maguire talks about the future of the Marvel Universe after Sony greenlit Spider-Man 4 for a 2011 release, highlighting that “I love collaborating with him… I have fun with those movies; I do.”

However, the excitement was short-lived because, in January 2010, Sony Pictures pulled the plug on the upcoming Marvel movie that was set to feature Anne Hathaway’s Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, Dylan Baker’s Curt Connors/Lizard, and John Malkovich’s Adrian Toomes/Vulture:

Other reports suggest that Spider-Man 4 would have revealed that Peter Parker’s landlord, Mr. Ditkovich (Elya Baskin), was a retired Kraven the Hunter and would go down the path of exploring the character.

Against all odds, however, Maguire’s beloved character made a triumphant return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, helping lead the smash-hit movie towards the $2 billion box office mark:

Maguire’s Marvelous Return

Seeing the massive success of No Way Home, it’s evident that the inclusion of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire — two actors who live on as legends within the comic book community — drew record-breaking crowds to theaters globally.

Countless reports suggest that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are eyeing Maguire and Garfield for numerous upcoming projects, including the rumored Secret Wars film or Disney+ series.

While they’re mainly rumors, it’s suggested that Andrew Garfield will receive The Amazing Spider-Man 3 another infamously canceled movie — and Maguire will get his Spider-Man 4 soon.

Given that Sony looks for box-office count over storytelling, it’s clear that fans are ready to see more of these characters. Even executives are prepared for the Spider-Trio to reunite as soon as possible.

Maguire’s Peter Parker is much wiser and has given his responsibilities new meaning between Spider-Man 3 (2007) and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
