Every Marvel fan lost their excellent seeing Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returns to the big screen as their iconic characters in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Critics and audiences praise Marvel for the fantastic writing of the three Spider-Men and how it propelled this Multiverse Marvel movie to stardom. Still, No Way Home screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers revealed a shocking revelation to this crossover.

Co-screenwriter Chris McKenna shared with The Hollywood Reporter that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield
Here’s McKenna’s full quote:
“We have to get these pages to them. It was so great. They were on board, but they hadn’t seen anything. They knew the idea, they trusted everyone, but we were in the middle of the war of making the movie, changing so much, but also — we were heading toward shooting them, so they had to see pages and basically see, ‘OK, we know there has been a pandemic. We know this thing has gone through a million changes, we know it’s been really difficult.’ Luckily they read the pages and they were like, ‘Oh, OK, yes! We can work with this.'”
Co-screenwriter Erik Sommers then commented:
They had thoughts, and it was really interesting and helpful to see their thoughts. No one knows the character as well as — or gives as much thought to the character — as someone who has to then embody it and sell it. It’s always valuable to hear what the actor is thinking. It definitely shaped what we did.
Sommers and McKenna later shared how Maguire and Garfield “elevated” the ending of No Way Home, particularly with the critical rooftop scene where the three Spider-Men officially meet and talk about their respective struggles as the beloved super hero.
It’s mind-boggling to consider the infinite possibilities for future Spider-Man projects featuring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, as Sony Pictures is reportedly working on numerous Marvel movies/series for the two.
Nonetheless, seeing these two legendary actors share the Spidey load with Tom Holland’s Avenger was a ground-breaking experience, one that came naturally and was fueled by the actors and their love for their respective characters.
