Marvel legends Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson are known globally as their Avenger counterparts, and the two were set to star together in an upcoming Apple movie. Now, however, this reuniting will have to wait.
Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) were set to reunite in Apple’s Ghosted, an original action-adventure film with direct Dexter Fletcher attached to the project.
Now, however, every Marvel fan will have to wait to see the two share the big screen again, as Ana De Armas fills in Johansson’s spot alongside Evans:
Scarlett Johansson, Evans’ oft-collaborator in the Marvel movies, has amicably exited the picture in what sources describe as a scheduling conflict.
According to Deadline, the Knives Out (2017) co-stars are reuniting in Apple’s Ghosted, as Ana De Armas replaces Scarlett Johansson for scheduling conflicts.
The report states that Johansson’s leaving is due to “a scheduling conflict,” but does not state which project she’s shifting her focus towards.
In a groundbreaking lawsuit, Scarlett Johansson sued The Walt Disney Company for a breach of contract upon the release of Marvel’s Black Widow (2021), the first MCU film to debut during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of closed theaters and crippling box office economy, the Mouse House released the Marvel movie on Disney+ under the “Premier Access” paid option.
This move, however, was not stated in Johansson’s original contract, resulting in a $40 million court settlement with Johansson’s estate, the victor.
Moving forward, Disney re-announced the upcoming Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror film with Johansson starring with Thor: Ragnarok (2017) director Taiki Waiti helming the film.
As a result, this scheduling conflict preventing Scarlett Johannson from starring alongside Chris Evans could be due to her next film with Disney. Nonetheless, there is no official statement from Johansson’s team.
Having worked together in the award-winning Knives Out, Chris Evans and Ana De Armas will share perfect chemistry in Ghosted. De Armas’ actions chops are up to par with recently filming No Time To Die (2021), so Ghosted will be a treat for all fans.
Scarlett Johansson made her MCU debut in Iron Man 2 (2011) as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. She quickly became a household name with Avengers (2012), seeing her first appearance alongside Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers/Captain America.
The two would share the Marvel screen again in films like Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
With the pair finishing their Marvel run with Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) in Endgame, Evans’ passed the shield onto the next generation of Marvel Characters/Earth’s Mightiest Heroes like Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers (Brie Larson).
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is leading the way for Marvel Cinematic Universe newcomers Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac), Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany), Eternals’ Thena (Angelina Jolie), and more.
The Marvel Universe is expanding like never before with the Multiverse. With new reports that Kevin Feige is bringing back Scarlett Johansson for a secret Marvel project, it’s clear that Black Widow or What If…? isn’t the last time fans will see her iconic character.
