If you were following along during the airing of The Mandalorian Season 2 in 2020 and into early 2021, you undoubtedly already know that former Cara Dune actress Gina Carano found herself in hot water more than once due to her controversial Tweets regarding various social and political topics.

Carano was officially fired from the Star Wars franchise in February 2021 after hashtags like #FireGinaCarano#WeLoveCaraDune, and #IStandWithGinaCarano alternately trended on social media for months. As a result of the actress’s dismissal from the Star Wars universe, her Mandalorian spinoff series, Rangers of the New Republic, was taken out of active development.

This week, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the show had been officially canceled, though she did not say that certain plot points will come into play in The Mandalorian Season 3 and other spinoffs, such as Ahsoka and The Book of Boba Fett, which is due to hit Disney+ on December 29, 2021.

Carano has been vocal about her distaste for The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm, Ltd., publicly stating that she was “bullied” by the powers-that-be and sharing that her new project — a Western film — with Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire will “take down the Death Star.”

Despite this, Carano’s supporters called for the former women’s MMA and Muay Thai fighter to return to the Star Wars story — and a new rumor indicates she could be back for The Mandalorian Season 4 thanks to support from showrunner Jon Favreau, leading man Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), and Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon).

Now, Kennedy’s confirmation that Rangers will still play into the “Mando-verse” in some way has fans online debating whether or not Carano could actually be plotting her Star Wars return. And unsurprisingly, the Mandalorian fandom is quite divided in whether or not they think this should occur.

A Twitter user named RyGuy responded to The Direct’s post, writing:

Thanks Gina for screwing the fans out of the series #GinaCarano

Or you could just rehire Gina Carano

Daniel Skywalker is firmly on the other side of the Gina Carano debate, sharing:

We really dodged a bullet here. Just imagine a whole show carried by Gina Carano’s “acting skills”.

Proving that fans still have wildly different opinions about the daughter of NFL quarterback Glenn Carano, Kendalorian posted:

Please @Lucasfilm_Ltd bring back @ginacarano for The Mandalorian! She was perfect in the role as Cara Dune and really brought an important aspect of body positivity, and frankly just pure positivity that is missing from a lot of Star Wars. My nieces love her dearly.

Jalbrit responded to a suggestion that Carano could simply be recast:

They will not recast. Favreau created the character based solely on Gina Carano. There was no audition. If any other actress put on that outfit and call herself Cara Dune she would be mocked beyond believe.

It is worth noting that Lucasfilm has already confirmed they will not recast Cara Dune, meaning that if the New Republic Marshal were to return to Nevarro alongside Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), Carano would be the one to portray the character.

What do you think? Will Gina Carano ever come back into the Star Wars fold?
