Actor Timothy Olyphant became a Star Wars fan-favorite after his memorable appearance in The Mandalorian Season 2’s debut episode, “Chapter 9: The Marshal”. Although Timothy Olyphant’s Cobb Vanth only appears in one episode with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), the character has made quite an impression on Star Wars fans.

With audiences wondering if they’ll get to see more of the sheriff of Mos Pelgo, evidence is beginning to suggest that Timothy Olyphant is primed for a return to his Cobb Vanth character in The Mandalorian season 3…or The Book of Boba Fett.

This week, Timothy Olyphant appeared on CONAN donning a look familiar to fans of The Mandalorian. His hairstyle and close-cropped beard are very similar — if not identical — to the look of Cobb Vanth sported in his Mandalorian appearance. While the topic of Star Wars was not discussed on the late-night TBS talk show, fan demand for more Cobb Vanth, combined with the known production timelines of The Mandalorian Season 3 and The Book of Boba Fett, add up to a possible reemergence of the Marshal of Mos Pelgo.

Comparing the following photos it’s easy to see similarities in appearance between Cobb Vanth and Timothy Olyphant’s current style.

Timothy Olyphant is a frequent guest of Conan O’Brien’s television show, CONAN, and has more often than not appeared clean-shaven. Perhaps the actor just really digs Cobb Vanth’s look. However, The Mandalorian season 3 — starring Pedro Pascal as Mando, and the expected returning cast of Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze, Carl Weathers as Greef Karga, and Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon —  is ramping up to begin filming. It is important to note, however, that only Pascal has been confirmed for the third season of the hit Star Wars series at this time.

The Book of Boba Fett — one of three Mandalorian spinoff series from Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau — is just winding down production. So, if Cobb Vanth is coming back to Disney+, the timing appears to coincide with Timothy Olyphant’s recent CONAN appearance. Since we know Book of Boba Fett is set to take place on Tatooine, where Vanth resides, the likelihood of his reappearance increases.

Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth in The Mandalorian Season 3

Showrunner Dave Filoni has been known to crossover characters between Star Wars series. The Mandalorian Season 2 featured the live-action introductions of Star Wars: The Clone Wars characters, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and the aforementioned Bo-Katan Kryze.

In The Mandalorian Season 2 premiere episode “Chapter 9: The Marshal,” Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) heads to Tatooine in search of a fellow Mandalorian. When he arrives in Mos Pelgo, he is surprised to meet Cobb Vanth wearing beskar Mandalorian armor of Boba Fett. Once Vanth explains how he came into possession of the Mandalorian armor, he strikes a deal with Djarin that he will surrender Boba Fett’s armor if Mando, along with Tusken Raider allies, helps him kill a Krayt dragon for its valuable pearl. Their mission proves to be successful, and Cobb Vanth gives up the beskar Mandalorian armor. Cobb Vanth and Din Djarin part on amicable terms, opening the door for potential future team-ups.

Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth in The Book of Boba Fett

Since The Book of Boba Fett was announced with a surprising post-credits scene following the conclusion of the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, fans have been speculating which characters we could see join notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen). As the former owner of Boba Fett’s armor, Cobb Vanth was closely monitored by Boba Fett on Tatooine. As Boba Fett was shown to have a strict code of honor in The Mandalorian Season 2, perhaps we could see Fett seek out Vanth as a worthy ally in The Book of Boba Fett.
