When Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) released, it faced an uphill battle following a directorial change — Ron Howard took over for Phil Lord and Chris Miller — and the general challenge of recasting Han Solo and Lando Calrissian, who were made famous by Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams, respectively, in the Star Wars original trilogy.
Led by Alden Ehrenreich as young Han Solo and Donald Glover as Calrissian, with Joonas Suotamo taking over the role of Chewbacca for the late Peter Mayhew, Solo wasn’t the blockbuster hit Star Wars filmmakers are used to (and Disney was undoubtedly hoping for). It brought in only $213 million at the domestic box office.
However, the movie has developed a cult following and #MakeSolo2Happen started trending last year around the second anniversary of the film’s release. Now, three years after Solo: A Star Wars Story hit movie theaters, once are once again begging Disney and Lucasfilm to consider a sequel.
“Well, there’s no sequel planned now and it’s amazing to be a part of a Star Wars movie that seems to be a kind of underground hit, which is not what you’d expect, but that’s been an odd, strange journey for that movie.”
Thus, it seems the door is certainly open for more Solo stories to be explored one way or another. Let’s take a look at what fans are saying.

Ed Nathanson expressed his support for a Solo sequel when he shared a birthday video from Billy Dee Williams himself:
Awesome anniversary gift from my wife and the smoothest dude EVER from a galaxy far far away…@realbdw #lando #landocalrissian #StarWars #billydeewilliams #billydee #MakeSolo2Happen
A Twitter user named Jason has an optimistic view:
I honestly think #MakeSolo2Happen will happen. Then when you 3 are recording an episode of the podcast on the Millennium Falcon while shooting is happening… it will all have been worth it. #KeepMakingStarWarsFun!!!
Rob Halfpenny called on Disney+ and Star Wars to listen to fans, something Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau has previously said the Star Wars universe needs to do (and he proved he walks the walk when he reintroduced Luke Skywalker):
how many times will #MakeSolo2Happen trend on twitter, before@disneyplus and @starwars finally do the right thing for us all.
