It’s important to note that a good chunk of these characters (especially the heroes) have actually been resurrected. However, even if they were snapped away by Thano’s and brought back from The Blip during Avengers: Endgame, it still counts.
Interestingly, Marvel tends to kill off its villains and have them stay dead. Only a handful of Marvel baddies are still confirmed as alive such as Zemo and Abomination, who will reportedly play major roles in an upcoming Disney+ series. Anyway, without further ado, let’s see who hasn’t been so lucky in the Marvel universe!
MCU heroes who have bitten the dust
Groot (Guardians of the Galaxy)
Lovable Groot is the first MCU to be given the honor of being killed off. This Guardian of the Galaxy dies nobly and peacefully protecting his fellow heroes. He later leaves behind a new Groot (AKA Baby Groot), who is also killed off. Groot can’t catch a break, apparently!
Pietro Maximoff / Quicksilver (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s one and only MCU appearance (so far) has him die at the hands of AI meanie . He goes down saving a child and Clint Barton / . Nice guy.
Yondu (Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2)
Just moments after being officially welcomed into the Guardians of the Galaxy clan, Yondu suffocates while saving the life of his surrogate son, Peter Quill / Star Lord. I’m not crying; you’re crying!
The first of many, many the on the Asgardian colony ship. The death occurs when he, , and Thor cannot stop from taking an during the prologue to Avengers: . victims, ‘s is murdered by
Gamora has one of the saddest deaths in the . She too dies at the hands of , but this time it’s personal. The purple villain throws her from a cliff on Vormir to obtain the soul stone. She is never revived, but in an alternate timeline, Gamora turns up in Avengers: Endgame and is presumably still running around the galaxy.
Vision (Round one)
Despite the valiant efforts of the . and co, the Avengers just run out of time. ends with Vision bravely stopping from purging the when he allows Wanda Maximoff to destroy
Vision (Round two)
Psyche! Vision joins the ranks of the the uses the time stone to undo his death … to kill him all over again! How he’s walking around and acting like a 1950s dandy in WandaVision has yet to be explained. for the second time when
Bucky Barnes / The
claims many iconic characters and the first to go is Bucky Barnes. The former fades into nothingness at the battle of Wakanda.
T’Challa is also “snapped” while trying to help up Okoye in his homeland of Wakanda.
Groot dies for the second time during the climax of Avengers: , much to Rocket Raccoon’s despair.
Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch
Wanda also falls victim to ‘ -ending snap.
Sam Wilson / Falcon
The third Avengers doesn’t pull its punches as Sam Wilson also joins the list of .

Drax the Destroyer
Drax briefly becomes visible as he dissolves into nothingness in front of a lonely and Nebula, uttering “Quill” as his last word.

Aldrich Killian / The Mandarin (Iron Man 3)
“The Mandarin” was kind of a let down for hardcore fans, as he wasn’t exactly comic-accurate. Regardless, Guy Pierce’s is killed by using one of Tony’s suits. (Does ever take down his own villains?!)
Kurse (Thor: The Dark World)
You might forget this meat-headed footsoldier from Thor: The Dark World. Kurse is a magically altered version of Algrim. He joins the long list of when stabs him and tricks him into entering a black hole.
Jasper Sitwell (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
Known for being the subject of a meme, Sitwell is thrown out of a car by a brainwashed Bucky Barnes during Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Alexander Pierce (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
“Mr. Secretary” makes a surprise appearance in the past in Avengers: Endgame. However, in the “original timeline”, Nick Fury guns him down. He dies uttering the words “Hail HYDRA”.
Strucker (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
Wolfgang Von Strucker was one of the leaders of HYDRA. His contribution to the comes at the beginning of Avengers: Age of . However, the titular robot soon murders him to send a message to the Avengers.

Avengers 2‘s big bad villain is played by James Spader. He puts the team through a whole load of issues and personally kills Quicksilver. Peter Quill’s celestial dad meets his end at the hands of the Guardians of the Galaxy when his planet form implodes.
Jackson Brice / The Shocker (Spider-Man: Homecoming)
A swift death for the would-be Shocker. He’s killed by his boss, The Vulture (Michael Keaton) after sassing him about his leadership.
Skurge (Thor: Ragnarok)
Karl Urban’s villainous sidekick ultimately turns out to be a good guy as he tries to save Asgard from Hela. Sadly, it’s that change of heart that gets him impaled by his former master.
Hela (Thor: Ragnarok)
Hela ultimately proves too powerful for Thor, Hulk, and Valkyrie to handle. The God of Thunder brings about to condemn both his home planet and his evil sister. ,
Surtur (Thor: Ragnarok)
The demon that Thor calls ends up heading down with Asgard after he destroys the planet.
Linda (Black Panther)
A savage death for a minor . Linda is the Bonnie to Killmonger’s Clyde — until she isn’t. After the villain is done with her, he shoots her without hesitation.
N’Jobu (Black Panther)
Killmonger’s dad is killed by his uncle T’Chaka in a flashback sequence towards the ‘s end.
Ulysses Klaue (Black Panther)
Age of ‘s secondary villain returns in . Andy Serkis plays the South African vibranium trader who is eventually killed by Killmonger. He gives his corpse to the Wakandans as part of his rapid rise to the throne.
Erik Killmonger (Black Panther)
Sadly, one of the best MCU villains only lasts one . He dies from injuries sustained in the final battle with T’Challa. However, he’s heavily rumored to reappear in II.
Another fantastic the breaks his neck. There’s “no resurrections this time”, though an alternate timeline will appear in his own + series, so don’t bid Tom Hiddleston farewell just yet! villain joins the list of , though really he’s an anti- at this point. He’s murdered by long before the snap when
‘ chief lieutenant is killed by when he sucks him into space. Oof!
Obsidian is attached to a Hulkbuster arm in one of the craziest deaths, which thrusts him into the deadly Wakandan forcefield.
The third member of the Black Order meets her untimely demise at the Battle of Wakanda. She’s up against Black Widow but is thrust into an oncoming vehicle by Scarlet Witch. Hardcore.
The Black Order’s final member is killed by a pained Vision when he stabs him with his own weapon before he can take down .
(Round one) (Avengers: Endgame)
The himself comes to a sticky end during the prologue of Avengers: Endgame. When he reveals that he destroyed the infinity stones (meaning the Avengers can’t undo the snap), a furious Thor beheads him.
Nebula (Avengers: Endgame)
“Endgame Nebula” is killed by regular old Nebula during the battle at the Avengers facility over a fight for the Stark .
(Avengers: Endgame (Round two) )
A past version of also meets his end. However, he isn’t beheaded by Thor this time and is instead killed by the third snap, when Tony Stark obliterates his forces.
Quentin Beck / Mysterio (Spider-Man: Far From Home)
Is Mysterio really dead? We won’t know for a while. However, as far as we know, Quentin Beck met his end at London’s Tower Bridge in Spider-Man: Far From Home. For now, he’s the last villain to join the d list.

Dr. Abraham Erskine (Captain America: The First Avenger)
This lovely side is responsible for creating . Sadly, he’s killed by the aforementioned HYDRA spy.
Phil Coulson (The Avengers)
Phil’s death at the hands of acts as a huge turning point for the Avengers. The God of Mischief takes him down, but Phil is revived during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Maya Hansen (Iron Man 3)
The Mandarin ultimately murders Tony Stark’s somewhat evil ex after she threatens to take her own life using the Extremis virus.
Frigga (Thor: The Dark World)
The and mother of Thor meets her demise to Kurse. Though a past version of her turns up in Avengers: Endgame for a tearful reunion with her son.
Meredith Quill (Guardians of the Galaxy)
Natural causes seemingly kill Peter Quill’s mother. However, it turns out that she had a tumor placed in her head by her former lover and Peter’s dad, Ego.
King T’Chaka (Captain America: Civil War)
T’Challa’s father is killed in a heartbreaking scene in : Civil War. A bomb explodes at a United Nations conference in Vienna, leaving T’Challa to become King of Wakanda.
Peggy Carter (Captain America: Civil War)
lives to a ripe old age but unfortunately dies of natural causes during Civil War. Fortunately, they are reunited when Steve decides to spend his life with her in the past through another MCU timeline. ‘s soulmate
The Ancient One (Doctor Strange)
The former Sorceror Supreme is killed by Mads Mikkelsen’s Kaecilius, leaving Stephen Strange to take up the position. She turns up in Avengers: Endgame to give Bruce Banner the time stone in the past.
Odin (Thor: Ragnarok)
Thor and gives his sons a final goodbye before dissolving into gold dust near the beginning of Thor: ‘s father .
Volstagg and Fendral (Thor: Ragnarok)
Two of the Warriors Three are easily dispatched by Hela when she invades Asgard. They join the ranks of the dead MCU characters and don’t seem likely to reappear anytime soon.
Hogun (Thor: Ragnarok)
…Aaaand, unfortunately, Hogun isn’t far behind. It’s sad to see these characters from the first Thor killed off so quickly.
Zuri (Black Panther)
This father figure to T’Challa is stabbed by Killmonger, cementing him as a remorseless villain.
Maria Hill (Avengers: Infinity War)
Maria is another victim of Avengers: . Like all of the “snapped” heroes, she is revived by Bruce Banner’s “reverse snap”. during the post-credits scene of
Janet Van Dyme and Hank Pym (Ant Man and the Wasp)
The former Ant-Man and Wasp are both annihilated by the snap alongside their daughter Hope.
Dr. Wendy Lawson / Mar-Vell (Captain Marvel)
Dr. Lawson is actually a Kree scientist killed by Yon-Rogg; ‘s former mentor turned enemy.

So there you have it, all the dead MCU characters. However, a good portion of them have thankfully been resurrected. As they always say, ‘nobody’s really dead in comic books’, so don’t rule out seeing some of these characters return in the future!
