Jenna Ortega is a rising star. Over the past year, the 20-year-old actress has become a household name, thanks to Netflix‘s hit series Wednesday (2022), which revolves around the titular Addams Family teen as she tries to solve a series of grisly murders at Nevermore Academy with the help of her roommate (and werewolf) Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers).

Wednesday exploded onto the scene when it streamed on Netflix last year and quickly became a global phenomenon. A second season is in development, however, there’s no release date as it’s facing delays due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes.

Ortega’s talents extend far beyond The Addams Family universe, though, as she’s also appeared as the Woodsboro teen Tara Carpenter in the last two Scream films. She’s set to reprise her role in Scream VII (TBA) and will also star in the long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice 2 (2024) opposite Michael Keaton’s titular “bio-exorcist” and Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz.

Ortega has also appeared in movies such as Iron Man 3 (2013), Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013), and The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020), as well as several television shows.

Either way, Jenna Ortega is a hot topic, not only because Wednesday Season 2 is heading to Netflix, but also because of new guidelines issued as a result of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, which mean that the actress has been “banned” from dressing up as Wednesday Addams.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that “The union is prohibiting actors from dressing up as popular characters from struck content and then posting the images on social media. That means some of the most popular Halloween costumes this year — such as Barbie and Wednesday Addams — are not allowed.”

This doesn’t mean Ortega won’t be reprising her role as Wednesday Addams — it means that she’s unable to dress as the character and share pictures on social media. The same applies to Margot Robbie, for example, who would be prohibited from dressing as Barbie.

However, Wednesday fans are extremely divided over this decision.

But it’s easy to forget that Wednesday isn’t the only hit series on Netflix Jenna Ortega has appeared in. She’s also known for voicing the character Brooklynn in the animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (2020 — 2022), which ran for five seasons on Netflix.

Camp Cretaceous is canon with the six Jurassic Park/Jurassic World films: Jurassic Park (1993) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), Jurassic Park III (2001), Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and Jurassic World Dominion (2022).

Now, Netflix has announced that there’s a new Jurassic World installment on the way, which is expected to arrive sometime in 2024.

The title for the project was featured during the trailer for “Geeked Week ’23”, a virtual fan fest the streaming platform hosts every year that includes news and first looks of its upcoming slate of content.

Netflix‘s new slate includes Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft (TBA), Sonic Prime (TBA), Rebel Moon (TBA), Life on Our Planet (TBA), Stranger Things Day (TBA), Squid Game: The Challenge (TBA), and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (TBA).

But despite many of these Netflix shows and movies being teased throughout the Geeked Week ’23 trailer, there’s (seemingly) no footage for Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, which, according to multiple sources including Jurassic Outpost, is a sequel to Camp Cretaceous.

It should be noted that there’s no confirmation on whether Chaos Theory is a television series or film, or whether it’s even animated. However, it’s worth pointing out that it shares its name with the Camp Cretaceous Season 2 finale. “Chaos theory” is also the topic of choice for the legacy Jurassic Park character Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum).

So we may see the return of Camp Cretaceous characters Darius Bowman (Paul Mikél Williams), Ben Pincus (Sean Giambrone), Yasmina “Yaz” Fadoula (Kausar Mohammed), Kenji Kon (Ryan Potter), Sammy Gutierrez (Raini Rodriguez), and Brooklynn (Jenna Ortega).

But not so fast.

The title Chaos Theory first emerged in September when a new series of Jurassic World figures was revealed at a New York City toy fair, which included an older version of Camp Cretaceous character Darius Bowman, as seen at the end of the fifth and final season.

However, it would seem that no other characters from the show appeared, including Brooklynn, the beloved teenage vlogger voiced by Ortega.

It would be a shame not to see Ortega back as Brooklynn. Given the star’s huge popularity, not having her return to the franchise would be a pretty big blunder. She’s so beloved that fans are hoping she’ll even replace Rachel Zegler in Disney’s upcoming Snow White (2024).

The latest film in the Jurassic Park series also missed a massive opportunity by not bringing the character Brooklynn into live action, especially given Ortega’s popularity. That said, it still grossed over $1 billion worldwide.

However, to promote Camp Cretaceous in 2020, Jurassic World shared a video in which the beloved Scream VI (2022) actress is dressed as a live-action version of Brooklynn. So clearly, the star enjoys playing her fictional counterparts off the screen.

Here’s to hoping we’ll see her return as Brooklynn in Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.

And if it turns out that Chaos Theory has nothing to do with Camp Cretaceous, at least we’ll see Ortega back as Wednesday Addams at some point in the near future and on the big screen in Scream VII and Beetlejuice 2.

Per Wikipedia, here’s the synopsis for Camp Cretaceous:

After winning a video game, dinosaur fanatic Darius Bowman is given the opportunity to visit Camp Cretaceous, an exclusive adventure dinosaur camp on Isla Nublar. Once there, Darius meets five other teenagers—Ben, Yaz, Brooklynn, Kenji, and Sammy—who were also chosen for the once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, when the dinosaurs break free from their habitats, the campers are stranded and forced to venture across the island without any help in the hopes of finding a way out alive.

All five seasons of Camp Cretaceous, plus the interactive adventure experience Hidden Adventure, are now streaming on Netflix.

Any details relating to Chaos Theory beyond Netflix‘s Geeked Week ’23 trailer are purely speculative at this point and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Geeked Week ’23 will be held from November 6 — 12, so it’s likely a proper announcement for the Jurassic World project will be made during that time.
