Now, although rumors abound that 25-year-old Holland — who is in a real-life relationship with Spider-Man franchise costar, Zendaya (The Greatest Showman) — is already in contract negotiations for a second trilogy with Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, the actor has spoken out about who he would ultimately like to see replace his character in Kevin Feige’s MCU.
Holland has previously shared that he doesn’t want to be still be portraying Spider-Man when he is 30, so it’s unsurprising that this is on his mind. He recently told People:
“I would love to see a future of Spider-Man that’s more diverse — maybe you have a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman. We’ve had three Spider-Mans [Holland, Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire] in a row; we’ve all been the same. It’d be nice to see something different.”
Intriguingly, Star Wars sequel trilogy alum Daisy Ridley (Rey Skywalker) — who acted alongside Holland in sci-fi thriller Chaos Walking (2021) — has expressed interest in joining the MCU as Spider-Woman, should the opportunity ever arise.
“Well, it’s funny because someone asked me off the cuff about the Spider-Woman rumors recently, and I went, ‘Oh, that sounds great.’ Apparently, I’ve now declared myself a front-runner to be Spider-Woman…”
Ridley currently has four projects in the works, including The Marsh King’s Daughter and Sometimes I Think About Dying which are both due to release in 2022.

Holland, for his part, can be seen in Uncharted later this year and is currently involved in an untitled Fred Astaire biopic. He can also currently be seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home in theaters worldwide.
Joining Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), the official description of Spider-Man: No Way Home reads:
For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.
