The special event series, directed by The Mandalorian‘s Deborah Chow, will see the return of both Scottish actor Ewan McGregor (Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader) in their prequel trilogy roles.
At last year’s Disney Investor Day event, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy teased the third epic lightsaber battle between the duo, saying Star Wars fans can look forward to the “rematch of the century”.

As expected, Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Company dropped the first official sneak peek of Obi-Wan Kenobi during Disney+ Day on November 12, 2021 — but, there’s a slight catch.
Star Wars fans who don’t currently subscribe to the Disney+ streaming service will have to sign-up and pay in order to watch the sizzle reel.

The clip not only features the first known details about the series — which will be set on Tatooine about ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005) — but showcases some commentary from both Chow and McGregor.
The director shares, “This is a quite a dark time we’re coming into with him [post-Order 66], just being a Jedi — it’s not safe. There are Jedi hunters out there.”

McGregor, who has previously teased that Obi-Wan Kenobi will give Star Wars fans a glimpse at young Luke Skywalker’s childhood as a Tatooine farmboy, adds, “At least he has this one task left, which is to keep Luke safe.”
Chow confirms that the Jedi Knight’s mission to watch over Princess Leia’s twin brother is “a starting place for our story, the interesting thing is going to be where it goes from there.”
