Starcruiser Star Wars

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is Disney’s brand new, one-of-a-kind hotel, launching in March 2022.

The eagerly-awaited Galactic Starcruiser hotel will take Guests on a (simulated) two-night voyage through a galaxy far, far away. While aboard the Galactic Starcruiser, Guests will be fully immersed in the Star Wars story, as each decision they make will shape the outcome of their journey.

Recently, Disney fans have been treated to numerous sneak peek looks onboard the Halcyon, and now a new concierge-style video leak has added to Star Wars fans’ disappointment with the upcoming hotel.

At Destination D23, held at Walt Disney World last month, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Josh D’Amaro revealed his own experience onboard the Galactic Starcruiser with a sneak peek video while on ABC’s The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration, Disney revealed a first look at entertainment onboard Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

The Star WarsGalactic Starcruiser has been described as a unique, immersive experience that Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek has promised will leave Guests “blown away.”

Characters like Chewbacca, Rey, and Kylo Ren will all be on board, and Guests will take a port excursion to Batuu’s Black Spire Outpost in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Galaxy’s Edge.

The Dan-O Channel on YouTube leaked this week the full welcome video that Guests with bookings aboard the Halcyon are starting to receive.

The video shows what appears to be some kind of purple alien concierge for the ship explaining various activities that are available onboard the Galactic Starcruiser. You can watch the full video below:

The message comes from Chandrila Star Line Representative Endario Zinn, who welcomes Guests after they’ve booked their expensive trip onboard the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser:

“I’d like to congratulate you on booking your voyage through the galaxy. You will be boarding the Halcyon, a Corellian MPO-1400 Starcruiser, built during the romantic age of exploration. This ship has hosted spectacular vacations for centuries, and now Chandrila Star Line is celebrating with the special exclusive journey to Batuu, retracing the path of its maiden voyage.”

Reactions from Disney and Star Wars fans alike have not been positive, with many commenting on how the style, acting, and tone of the video are not what Guests expect from Disney Imagineering. Some even noticed that the actress’s eye movements reveal she is reading a teleprompter – when Disney is normally famous for its quality and realism.

Many fans have expressed that the video does not present itself as a Star Wars video but, in fact, looks more similar to a Star Trek or Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy message:

The “Star Wars” characters on the Galactic Starcruiser look like they’re from Xandar in Guardians of the Galaxy.

It looks to me like Disney is hedging its bets on the theming of the Galactic Starcruiser hotel so if they lose the license for Star Wars, they can convert it to… I donno, Captain EO, maybe?

Others commented on the look and feel of the Halcyon itself, relating it to Endario Zinn’s confirmation that the Starcruiser was opened “centuries” ago:

The woman in the Galactic Starcruiser intro video says the ship has been used for centuries, yet the entire thing has no wear, it looks like it’s brand new. All the rooms, the pieces are painted solid colors. An old luxury ship feels upscale and still has signs of being lived in

Another user, Six Miles Tall, jokingly referenced the Star Wars Holiday Special in their review of Disney’s marketing for the new hotel:

Y’all need to understand: The Galactic Starcruiser storyline is founded upon the Star Wars Holiday Special

@DisCounselor further noted that Starcruiser doesn’t feel like it was made for fans of Star Wars at all:

I realize now Disney didn’t make the Galactic Starcruiser for Star Wars lovers. They made it for rich people who think Star Wars is neat.

Last week, Disney removed its videos of the Starcruiser from its social channels without comment. The original Tweet link, as well as the YouTube link, now show that the content has been taken down.

Criticism for these videos was high, with many Star Wars fans disappointed in the look of the Halcyon. Most fans agreed that the Starcruiser does not look up to Disney standards of Imagineering and are hoping that the hefty price tag lives up to expectations in March.

We recently reported how many Guests have been canceling their stays aboard the Galactic Starcruiser, with months that were fully booked having sporadic days available.

We’ll have to see in March 2022 when the first reviews come in from Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser’s first Guests, but for now, it seems many fans are not impressed with the initial insight.

The Outer Rim planet of Batuu opened to Disney Parks Guests on May 31, 2019, at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, and on August 29, 2019, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park in Orlando, Florida, to mixed reviews from diehard Star Wars fans.

The Star Wars-themed land is set between Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017) and Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019) and features two attractions – Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run and the continually popular Rise of the Resistance.

Do you have a booking onboard the Galactic Starcruiser? What do you think of the welcome video released this week?
