“Pathetic”: Fans Are NOT Impressed By First Look At ‘Star Wars’: Galactic Starcruiser

in Star Wars, Walt Disney World

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is the sought-after ticket for Star Wars fans when it launches in March 2022.

The eagerly-awaited Galactic Starcruiser hotel will take Guests on a (simulated) two-night voyage through a galaxy far, far away. While aboard the Galactic Starcruiser, Guests will be fully immersed in the Star Wars story, as each decision they make will shape the outcome of their journey.

At Destination D23, Disney fans were treated to a sneak peek look onboard the Halcyon, but reactions to the video have not been positive.

At Destination D23, held in Disney’s Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World on the weekend, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Josh D’Amaro revealed his own experience onboard the Galactic Starcruiser with a sneak peek video.

The Star WarsGalactic Starcruiser has been described as a unique, immersive experience that Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek has promised will leave Guests “blown away”.

Characters like Chewbacca, Rey, and Kylo Ren will all be on board and Guests will take a port excursion to Batuu’s Black Spire Outpost in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Galaxy’s Edge.

Josh D’Amaro showcased his Jedi skills with the brand new lightsaber training on the Starcruiser, as well as getting a preview of what Guests can expect on the bridge during their time onboard.

Fan reaction to this video, however, has not been positive, with many Star Wars fans disappointed in the look of the Halcyon. Most fans agree that the Starcruiser does not look up to Disney standards of Imagineering and are hoping that the hefty price tag lives up to expectations in March:

I don’t want Galactic Starcruiser to be a flop. A lot of people @ Disney & Lucasfilm have worked a long hard time on this project & I wanna see it succeed. But a lot of what I’m seeing so far looks underwhelming

Other Twitter user reactions focused on the details of the video and how Disney is usually better at creating a real-life representation of fantasy worlds:

My issue with the #GalacticStarcruiser bridge & lightsaber footage is how clean it looks. This is @starwars, not @StarTrek. There should be some lived in details, even if it’s supposed to be classy and fancy. See Canto Bight by @rianjohnson for tips @WaltDisneyWorld

Josh D’Amaro’s experience in the lightsaber game and bridge battle also disappointed viewers:

Lightsaber training on Galactic Starcruiser…. well, let’s hope other experiences on the trip are better.

A social media user going by RmoneyTheHBomb responded, fearful that the activities onboard wouldn’t measure up to the hype — and might even seem like something from a ride queue engineered in the 1980s:

That bridge target shooting thing looked like the Wdw space mountain queue game.

Stitch Kingdom is concerned about the newest Disney Resort’s high-end price tag compared to the experience that has been seen so far:

– next up on the agenda: #galacticstarcruiser activities. Now we have a 30 minute DIY lego model building sesh. What more can we do for $1000/day? – how about real lightsaber training? Like anyone can do for free in the VR game but this time make it real — – Done! – pathetic.

Other Star Wars fans were more excited about the new Walt Disney World hotel, with many commenting on the story details:

Really cool details about the backstory of Galactic Starcruiser. It was awesome to hear about the integration of the Halcyon into the Star Wars Cannon! #DestinationD23

Force Ghost Conversations noted that they are looking forward to “blasting off” to a galaxy far, far away when the Starcruiser officially launches next spring:

Just watched the panel on worldbuilding at the Galactic Starcruiser, heading to Walt Disney World next March. I am so ready for this experience!

We’ll have to see in March 2022 when the first reviews come in from Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser’s first Guests, but for now it seems many fans are not impressed with the initial insight.
