Depp has been embroiled in a year-long legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, which has led to his already rare public appearances becoming even less frequent.
Thus, Depp’s supporters love any opportunity to be close to the Captain Jack Sparrow actor, hence today’s situation. Depp was in Rome for the 19th Alice Nella Citta 2021 Film Festival. The Alice in Wonderland star was also recently awarded the prestigious Donostia Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

At this time, despite immense fan support, Depp is not expected to return for Pirates of the Caribbean 6, reportedly starring Margot Robbie. He has also been fired from his role as Gellert Grindelwald in Warner Bros. Harry Potter Fantastic Beasts spinoff series. Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) will take over the part, though he has admitted he is unsure if letting Depp go was “fair”.
More on Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard
If you haven’t been following the ongoing Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard case, in November 2020, Hollywood actor Johnny Depp lost his libel lawsuit against U.K. News Group Newspaper publication, The Sun, for their report that he had allegedly engaged in domestic violence — including a reported “hostage” situation during a Pirates of the Caribbean shoot in Australia — against ex-wife Amber Heard (Aquaman, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom) on multiple occasions.

British Judge Andrew Nicol presided over the original proceedings, and Depp later lost his right to appeal the original ruling in the United Kingdom. The Captain Jack Sparrow actor, for his part, has denied the domestic violence allegations, with even his ex partners, Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder, speaking out in his defense at various points in time.

At this time, the former couple is next expected to appear in court in relation to their $50 million U.S. civil lawsuit in Virginia in April 2022.
