Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp has had a rough go of it lately following domestic abuse allegations by his ex-wife Amber Heard. Still, itĀ seems there is one person he can always rely on to be in his corner — his famous character, Captain Jack Sparrow.

While promoting his new based-on-a-true-story World War II movie, The Minamata Photographer, at the BCN Film Fest, Depp spoke to the Spanish newspaper, El Pais, about his most iconic role as the swashbuckling Captain of the Black Pearl. The Disney actor was asked if he missed the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and said:
“No, I do not miss it, because I have it every day, I always carry it with me, I travel with the captain Jack in the suitcase.Ā I belong to Jack Sparrow and he is loyal to me.ā

Depp also shared that he still likes to visit childrenās hospitals while dressed up as the famous pirate — the actor began doing this years ago, and it is refreshing that he continues to bring cheer to hospitalized youth. And, perhaps, the time spent with kids could be a distraction from the many personal problems that have deeply impacted his Hollywood career in recent months.
The situation unfolded when the U.K. News Group newspaper publication, The Sun, published an article that claimed he had abused ex-wife Heard on multiple occasions. Deppās lawyer, the entire PR camp, and the actor have denied all allegations and fought a lengthy court battle in the London High Court.

However, Depp ultimately lost the libel suit and his subsequent appeal — and, with these legal decisions, he lost two significant roles in movie franchises. Disney dropped Depp for the reported Pirates of the Caribbean 6 film, and Warner Bros. fired the actor as Gellert Grindelwald in the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts series.
At this time, Margot Robbie is expected to lead the POTC franchise moving forward, and Star Wars actor Mads Mikkelsen will take over as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3.Ā

It has not yet been announced if other Pirates of the Caribbean actors, such as Geoffrey Rush (Captain Hector Barbossa), will return for more movies in the popular franchise. Neither Orlando Bloom (Will Turner) nor Kiera Knightley (Elizabeth Swann) appeared in the fifth installment, so itās highly unlikely their characters will be seen again.

It is worth noting that Depp has an extremely loyal fan base who have supported him throughout his recent trials and tribulationsāaĀ petition to bring the actor back as Jack Sparrow has reached over half a million signatures.
Furthermore, two of Deppās exes, Vanessa Paradis and Winona Rider, have spoken out in support of the star.
And, just yesterday, #JusticeForJohnnyDepp began trending on social media after new police bodycam footage from a prior domestic dispute at Depp and Heardās home emerged. Many fans feel that this evidence should allow Depp and his legal team to take further action, although their initial request for an appeal was denied in the U.K.
