The Mandalorian Season 2 finale episode threw a lot of curveballs our way. Luke Skywalker (CGI Mark Hamill) is Grogu’s Jedi Master! Bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) now wields the Darksaber! Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) took over Jabba the Hutt’s palace! Phew.

And, all of that is just the beginning of creator Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni’s Mandalorian universe. During the now-famous Mandalorian “Chapter 16: The Rescue” post credits scene, showrunner Robert Rodriguez’s The Book of Boba Fett was announced.

This series, airing on Disney+ in December 2021, is set to be the “next chapter” of The Mandalorian. Now, Book of Boba Fett star Ming-Na Wen has spoken out about whether or not her character will also return in The Mandalorian Season 3. The Star Wars: The Bad Batch voice actress told Digital Spy:

“I don’t know. You’ll probably find out before I do. You guys have your feelers out on everything. I mean, come on, I didn’t even know I was shooting The Book of Boba Fett, so you’re asking the wrong person.”

Wen continued, sharing details about how she thought she was filming the third season of The Mandalorian when it was actually the first season of The Book of Boba Fett! She shared:

“When I was told I was going to become a series regular, I just automatically assumed it was for The Mandalorian season three. And then when the scripts came out, it said 301, 302, 303, 304. So I just assumed I was signing on – because it doesn’t say The Mandalorian on my contracts.

“So for two weeks, while I was working with Tem [Temuera Morrison] and Robert [Rodriguez], I had no idea that I was actually shooting the spin-off [laughs].

This should give Star Wars fans an idea of just how much the two shows will play off of one another. Although Morrison and Wen are the only confirmed cast members, there are rumors that Pascal’s Din Djarin, Marshal Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), and even Grand Admiral Thrawn will appear in The Book of Boba Fett.

As for The Mandalorian Season 3, production has not yet started. Pascal is the only star confirmed to be returning at this time, but it is likely that the Darksaber story arc will continue with Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) — and his Dark Trooper droids –, Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), and Nite Owl warriors Axe Woves (Simon Kassianides) and Koska Reeves (Sasha Banks).

Given the trajectory of Favreau and Filoni’s Mandalorian saga — and the fact that Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) is also getting her own spinoff, Ahsoka — it seems likely that Wen’s Fennec Shand may not appear again until the upcoming streaming event where all of the series converge within the Star Wars universe.
