Walt Disney World Resort can draw crowds all-year-round, even with the current pandemic despite the 35% limited capacity put into place. Guests from all over the country still want to visit the Most Magical Place on Earth.
If you are looking to visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Disney World on a future trip, but are worried about the crowd levels, follow these tips and tricks! In this article, we are breaking down all of the areas and attractions to avoid compared to which areas are much less crowded and which attractions are better to ride.
Areas to Avoid at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The following are often the most crowded areas at Hollywood Studios, so avoid these places during busy times of day if you want to steer clear of potential crowds.
Galaxy’s Edge
It’s no surprise that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is one of the most crowded sections of the theme park. Many Guests have been waiting quite some time to be able to step foot into Batuu and be fully immersed into a galaxy far, far away. This section of the park tends to draw a ton of crowds throughout each day.

Area Outside of Star Tours
Star Tours – The Adventures Continue is another busy area of the park. As you can see in the photo above, the pathways are pretty narrow in front of the attraction and so that doesn’t help the crowd levels. This is also one of the main ways to get to Galaxy’s Edge and so people tend to walk through this area to get to Batuu.
The End of Sunset Boulevard Near Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
Both Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror sit at the end of Sunset Boulevard, which makes this often a packed area. Additionally, with social distancing measures currently in place, the line for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster can sometimes wrap onto Sunset Boulevard, making this area even more crowded than normal.
Areas to Visit at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
These are the areas you should consider visiting if you want a break from the crowded areas of the park.
The Muppets Area
With Galaxy’s Edge right next door, people tend to bypass The Muppets section of the theme park, making this the perfect section to sit and relax while avoiding other people.
Animation Courtyard
Another section that I, personally, love to sit in is Animation Courtyard. Right now, characters are not meeting Guests due to the pandemic and so the back half of this area is pretty empty. There are a ton of benches that you can sit at and people watch.
Outside of Theater of the Stars
Even though the end of Sunset Boulevard gets busy, if you sit outside Theater of the Stars (or even on the side of it), you will find it to be pretty quiet and relaxing.
Hollywood Studios Attractions to Avoid
If you are looking to avoid crowds and long lines, be sure to stay away from the following Disney’s Hollywood Studios rides (unless you find a particularly short wait time) as these tend to build up throughout the day:
- Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
- Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Toy Story Mania
- Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
Hollywood Studios Attractions to Visit
As for attractions that tend to be a bit less popular and haven’t had extremely long lines on average, be sure to check out the following:
- MuppetVision 3D
- Alien Swirling Saucers
- Disney Junior Dance Party!
- Walt Disney Presents
- For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
- Mickey Shorts Theater
- Star Wars Launch Bay
Do You Want to Visit Walt Disney World?
If you are looking to visit Disney World on your next vacation, there are some things you need to keep in mind. First, health and safety protocols have been added to the theme parks. These include social distancing markers, the requirement of a proper face covering, encouragement of Mobile Order, temporary suspension of meet and greets, parades, and fireworks, and more.
Additionally, Disney has a new Park Pass reservation system that requires those who wish to visit a Walt Disney World theme park — Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom — to have both a valid ticket and a reservation for the park they wish to visit on that day.
At this time, the Disney Park Pass system currently allows Guests to book available theme parks through January 2023, indicating that theme park reservations are not going away anytime soon, so Guests should get familiarized with the system if they are wanting to visit the Most Magical Place on Earth.
