If you have been to Walt Disney World Resort, the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort, or any other Disney Park during the ongoing pandemic, you have likely experienced their top-notch ability to ensure Guest safety as much as possible. From Cast Members strongly emphasizing mask-wearing and social distancing to having sanitization and signage all around the parks — Disney has truly created a safe way to enjoy the parks during a time of such uncertainty.

A question on many Guests’ minds, however, is, “When will face coverings no longer be required at Walt Disney World?”

Currently, from the moment a Guest steps onto Disney Property, face masks must be worn. This means that unless you are actively eating or drinking in designated areas, or you are in your Disney World Resort hotel room, an appropriate face covering that is covering your nose and mouth must be worn at all times. Now, Disney has confirmed that even as the COVID-19 vaccination becomes more widely distributed, Walt Disney World theme park Guests — as well as Guests at Disneyland Resort property, since Downtown Disney is currently open — will still need to wear a mask.

Below is the reminder that Disney has recently released:

As COVID-19 vaccines begin to roll out around the world, we’re optimistically looking forward to a time in the future when we can once again share smiles with each other in the Disney Parks and Resorts.

At this time, the CDC recommends continuing to practice healthy behaviors while experts learn more about the protection that COVID-19 vaccines provide under real-life conditions. With that in mind, we will continue to require our Cast Members and Guests ages 2 and up to wear face coverings at all times except when actively eating or drinking while stationary and maintaining appropriate physical distancing. We will also continue existing health and safety measures like temperature checks, reduced capacity, physical distancing and increased frequency in cleaning.

In addition, it’s equally important for Cast Members to continue maintaining physical distancing whenever possible, even when wearing required face coverings, and face shields as needed.

The combination of these precautions, and your compliance, is what enables us to keep our theme parks, Disney Springs and select Disney Resort Hotels open in the current environment.

Additionally, to help our Guests, we have clarified that face coverings with clear panels are acceptable if they meet certain requirements. Face coverings may have an integrated transparent plastic panel to aid in viewing the wearer’s mouth. These face coverings must:

Be a fabric face covering featuring a solid plastic panel containing no openings that is attached to the fabric on all sides using tight knit stitching
Meet all other face covering requirements

As we’ve shared before, we will keep working with health authorities on many dimensions of health and safety, and we’ll evaluate and adjust our approach as needed in the months to come as we consider their guidance and the recommendations of our team of health experts.

If a Disney World Guest does not comply with face mask rules, Cast Members will remove them from the park. At the four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom), Disney has continuous audio reminders that air during park hours, notifications that go directly to Guests’ mobile devices via the My Disney Experience app, and Cast Members who are quite literally patrolling the grounds and are not afraid to speak up when Guests are not following their guidelines.

Considering the coronavirus vaccination is in the early stages of being distributed, it is very understandable that Disney is taking the utmost caution when it comes to Guest safety by keeping these rules and regulations in place as we continue to navigate our way throughout this ongoing pandemic. Remember that visiting any theme park at this time poses a health and safety risk. View the most up-to-date rules on the official website here.
