Yesterday, it was confirmed that Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige’s foray into the Star Wars universe had taken a big step forward.

After being initially announced in September 2019, Feige’s Star Wars movie seemingly took a backseat as Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm executives navigated not only the unexpected pandemic but also the overwhelming success of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni’s The Mandalorian and how to incorporate the show into the larger Star Wars story after the official end of the Skywalker Saga with Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker in December 2019.
Now, however, writer and producer Michael Waldron (Rick & Morty, Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) has been tapped to oversee the script for Feige’s journey out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and into a galaxy far, far away.
Some fans, however, think a nod or two to the MCU — perhaps in the form of Tom Hiddleston (Loki) or Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff) — ought to be in order. Here’s what’s buzzing on Twitter.
Fandom entertainment shared a photo of Hiddleston’s Loki — from the Thor franchise and Avengers films — holding two red-bladed lightsabers and wearing a positively evil expression on his face. Their social media team captioned the image:
We have a mischievous idea for Kevin Feige’s Star Wars film
Loki certainly would make a convincing dark side sympathizer.

A response to Fandom’s post shared another thought alongside a photo of a black-clad Johansson:
Scarlett Johansson as Sith Lord set 1000 years after ROS [Rise of Skywalker]
A project set a millennium after the sequel trilogy would be the furthest, Star Wars timeline-wise, that Lucasfilm has ever strayed from the original trilogy — Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977), Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Star Wars: Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi (1983).

Kevin Feige’s Star Wars film. He loves ESB [Empire Strikes Back] so maybe a Shadows of the Empire or Dark Forces movie would be something special.

David Rogers was one of many Twitter users who hope Feige’s film is set during the Old Republic era — this is interesting timing since a fan rendering of Keanu Reeves as Darth Revan has recently been circulating online. Rogers wrote:
I really hope Kevin Feige’s Star Wars move [movie] is set during the Old Republic. But with the big launch of the High Republic era, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is set around then. Either way I’m buzzed for it.

Another post about the Old Republic possibility, written by Dan, speculated:
Disney is brining [bringing] back the Old Republic/NJO [New Jedi Order novels between 1999-2003]/Legacy
but it’s going to be managed by Kevin Feige

Santino Geranio went in another direction with his Kevin Feige Star Wars fan theory:
Calling it now…
Kevin Feige’s Star Wars Movie Will Be A Vader Standalone Story
This is intriguing, if only because it has been confirmed that Hayden Christensen is already reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Deborah Chow’s OBI-WAN KENOBI: An Original Series and rumors have been swirling that James Earl Jones will return to voice the Star Wars villain once more.

Ziggy wrote — amid dissent in the comments section:
Kevin Feige helmed Star Wars Franchise moving forward [it should be noted Feige has not been confirmed for anything more than a single film]. Also here is a photo of Brie Larson dressed as a Jedi. Make this happen!

Finally, of course, it wouldn’t be a Marvel x Star Wars discussion without Robert Downey, Jr. — superhero Iron Man in the MCU — coming up during the conversation. Online rumors are running rampant that RDJ is being considered for the role of Grand Admiral Thrawn in The Mandalorian saga — likely starting with the recently announced Ahsoka spinoff featuring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano.
A Tweet by Caleb Mealer shared another take on RDJ’s potential Star Wars involvement, however:
Nah, RDJ will be put in Feige’s Star Wars movie (assuming that movie isn’t the culmination of the Thrawn story they’re building up to). Favreau and Filoni know to cast Thrawn more carefully than to just hand it to an A-list actor.

At present, no official details have been released about Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie — not even when it will be released. Next on Lucasfilm’s slate is Patty Jenkins’s Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (2023) and Taika Waititi’s untitled Star Wars project (2025).
The next announced Star Wars feature-length film will hit theaters in 2027.
What are your theories about Kevin Feige’s Star Wars storyline? Do you agree with any of these fans’ potential plots?
