Buckle up, Marvel, “Star Wars,” and Disney superfans. Kevin Feige has a new “Star Wars” film project up his sleeve, and may the force be with him.
Being the huge fan that he is, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is going to develop a new “Star Wars” film as Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy plans an entirely new set of projects for the “Star Wars” universe.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Feige discussed dabbling in the “Star Wars” universe at the end of this summer while meeting with Kennedy as well as Alan Horn and Alan Bergman, co-chairs of the studio.
“We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of ‘Star Wars’ but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ with Emma Watts and Fox,” said Horn. “With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in ‘Star Wars’ storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a ‘Star Wars’ film together.”
At the time of this report, it’s unclear what the plans are for Feige’s future with Lucasfilm. But given how Feige’s leadership has led to the outstanding success of Marvel films, we’re not surprised that he’s moving to the Dark Side and taking on a new “Star Wars” project. Still, the Marvel head has a lot on his plate with all the Marvel Studios projects still in production and on the horizon in the next few years. But if there’s anyone who can juggle numerous film projects at once and still come out on top, it’s Feige.
Many note that this new “Star Wars” film will lead to a larger role for Feige within Lucasfilm, and others believe it simply just reflects his passion for the franchise. Still, even though Kennedy still remains in charge and there are reportedly no plans for changing that, Feige is clearly excited about getting a slice of Lucasfilm. Apparently Feige has already told a major actor that he has a specific role in mind for him in the new film, though details are still highly under wraps.
“The Rise of Skywalker” hits theaters on December 20, and even though the details of Feige’s new project are still highly secretive, we’re not surprised that this announcement comes only a few months before the final installment of the Skywalker Saga. “Star Wars” was built on hope, and knowing that we are getting a new film by Feige sometime in the future, we can only hope it will be good.
But what will this new film be about? Will it follow some new characters introduced in the Skywalker Saga? Will it have a tie-in with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the new themed land at Disneyland and Walt Disney World? Or will it be an entirely new story and lead to its own trilogy set years after this one? We’re not sure what Feige and Kennedy’s plans are for this new chapter, but we’re excited to find out.
What do you think of Feige taking on “Star Wars”? Let us know in the comments!
