The Disney Parks are filled with numerous attractions, but since some of these rides were built long ago, it’s safe to say they must be refurbished in order to keep them in tip-top shape.
Now, fans are calling for Disney to improve the iconic Space Mountain ride in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom.
Disney World rides need refurbishments
Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is filled with all types of rides and attractions. From family rides including “it’s a small world” and Peter Pan’s Flight to thrilling coasters such as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Big Thunder Mountain, the Disney Parks have experiences that are fit for anyone.
But with that being said, some of these attractions were built in the 1970s and Disney Imagineers must continue to improve the technology and ride elements in order for them to run smoothly.
One of the most talked-about attractions that is in desperate need of a refurbishment is Space Mountain, located inside Tomorrowland at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
Space Mountain is in dire need of a refurb
One Reddit user, Rann_Xeroxx, took to the social media platform to share a recent experience that they had when visiting Disney World. They explain that while aboard Space Mountain, they felt it was very jerky and quite uncomfortable and is in need of a refurbishment:
Might be an unpopular opinion but Space Mountain really needs a major update for its track system. Both my wife and I and even my 25 yo daughter said we won’t ride it again this trip as it is just way too jerky and extremely hard on the back and neck. The whole track system needs to be gutted and a new one installed. We will ride things like Everest or Rock-n-Roll over and over again in a row but SM, and we walk off hurting. Then there is the ride vehicles, which are extremely cramped and limit the accessibility to a lot of people.
The topic of jerkiness and uncomfortableness on Space Mountain in Disney World has been something that’s been discussed amongst fans for quite some time now. And, it has some fans online asking Disney to refurb this attraction in the near future.
In fact, another Reddit user, carolinejay, agreed with Space Mountain needing a bit of an update due to the comfort level, even comparing the ride experience to Disneyland’s version:
Yup. the disneyland version is way more comfortable. Wdw space mountain is comparable to matterhorn IMO, in terms of comfort/jerkiness
And cohenisababe also commented on the Reddit thread, expressing:
100% agreed. My back hurt so bad after riding. We were watching YouTube videos the other day and one of them was Space Mountain and it immediately took me back to how awful it felt.
Robbycough chimed in with their opinion as well, explaining that the current Space Mountain state is not comfortable at all:
This was my hope as well. The current WDW SM is getting to the point of being horrendously uncomfortable (although I suppose I can blame myself getting older and having less a tolerance for tailbone-crushing bottoms of the drops). The DL version is so smooth and fun and the soundtrack is one of the few on a roller coaster that actually adds to the experience. It’s a superior ride by every measurement.
While I’m expecting the aftermath of the pandemic will be WDW NOT adding anything new after Tron, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Ratatouille for quite a few years, I’d love if the opening of Tron makes possible a long-term closure and reworking of SM.
Several other Reddit users also commented on the post, agreeing with the fact that Space Mountain at Disney World is not nearly as comfortable or enjoyable as the Disneyland version and they hope to see Disney give Space Mountain a refurbishment soon.
It is important to keep in mind that Disney has not announced a refurbishment for Space Mountain as of the time this article was published, but Inside the Magic will continue to update you on everything you need to know surrounding the Disney Parks!
