Rode SM for the first time in 2011, and haven’t since until they refurb the track. It’s just way too jarring on the neck and back. Doesn’t help being a dark coaster that you can’t anticipate turns and drops easily and brace comfortably for the G load. Yet RnR is a indoor coaster with loops and I don’t have a similar problem, even in corners and drops I can’t see.

I agree Space Mountain is way to jarring. And the cars seem awfully cramped. My son who is super skinny had trouble with the cramped quarters. And you feel like the track is going to fall apart around you. Can say i do agree with this ride being refurbished in the future!

I have a slipped disk and weight almost 200lbs, rode space mountain at disney world yesterday with no problems. ?‍♀️

I would have to disagree rock n roller coaster was WAY worse than space mountain. I had the worst headache coming off Rock n Roller coaster

Good, it wasn’t just me thinking I was getting old. I’ve ridden Space Mountain multiple times throughout the years, but this last time back in February I felt it was way more jerky and felt a little sore afterwards. I’m only 39 so I was pretty disappointed that I was already starting to not be able to handle roller-coasters, but nice to know that a lot of others are noticing it too. Yes, refurbishment it, but please wait until after the 50th Anniversary so I can ride it next year. I’ll just do some good stretching beforehand.

I have had a problem on Space Mountain. I have a bad back, bad legs and weigh quite a bit. I have never had a problem getting on or off. Space Mountain is a perfect roller coaster. It is dark because you are “in” space flying around. No changes are necessary.

Yes it is in the dark but so is RnR and many of us don’t have an issue with that, so it is not due to it being in the dark.
Please read my post below I enjoyed it when I weighed more so weight is not the issue either.
Maybe it is due to the fact that we remember it when it was not as ‘rough’?

I totally agree! I went on Space mountain back in the 90’s and early 2000’s and loved it (I weighed more back then) however the last few times I went on Space mountain I found it VERY jerky! Unfortunately I don’t feel comfortable riding it again till it goes through a refurbishment 🙁

I’ve stopped riding Space Mountain too. Even our young adult age kids tend to stay off of it. I am 53 and ride most every roller coaster Cedar Point has, but I don’t like the cramped jarring ride of SM. Refurbishment is needed but not before they finish Epcot, and that includes Spaceship Earth and please, Figment too (awful attraction)!

Last time I rode Space Mountain was 2019. Such a uncomfortable painful experience, I will not ride again until updated. Used to be one of my favorites.

Why wouldn’t Disneyland’s be better? It used to suck just like you’re describing. Then… They modified it, about the same time they added totally new audio and effects. I was never impressed with it until the changes.
Sounds like WDW needs the same treatment.

If you don’t like it, don’t ride it. I will not ride splash mountain again but will always ride space mountain, at least until the PC police screw it up. We get older and feel it more. Don’t screw it up for younger people who like it that way. Just accept the fact you’re old and can’t handle the same stuff anymore.

Thank you! No refurbishment is needed!

I’m a rollercoaster fanatic. I ride all the coasters in Disney, Universal, SeaWorld and Busch Gardens on a regular basis. (I’m a Florida passholder) Space Mountain is the ONLY ONE that hurts my back and neck. It is a very old coaster and needs refurbishing. When coasters get old, they need track work. When Tron opens, it will be even more obvious, as that coaster will be smooth as silk. If they do refurb Space Mountain, I really hope they bring the cars and soundtrack from Disneyland. As others have said, their version of the ride is far superior.

I enjoy WDW Space Mountain. I am 58 and overweight. But I still like this Ride. I do agree that Disneyland Space mountain is a different ride with similar theming. The Matterhorn and WDW Space mountain are more similar rides with different themes. I love them all. I would not want to see WDW Space Mountain changed a lot. Sure if they could tweak it and make it a little smoother that would be fine. Don’t know why they took out the moving walkways exiting the ride. It is a long walk.

    So:
    A) SM in WDW and DL are 2 different rides. The WDW based on the matterhorn the DL was based on the fact the footprint of building was smaller, so a smaller ride was needed.
    B) I’ve ridden MANY rollercoasters in my lifetime. Some have been unbearably rough (kumba in bush gardens) while others have been.dissapointing. The problem.with a ride like SM is that you might be killing the rides heart. With a complete refurbish that will haiqppen. Agreed some tighten up could be done. Be afraid of what you wish for on a ?

Space Mountain doesn’t need to be refurbished. Its the type of attraction that is supposed to be jarring and jerky. People just want to change it because its rough and bumpy and makes them uncomfortable. Thats why they have warning signs posted. Don’t change because of a few who can’t handle the roughness. Go ride It’s a Small World. Its alot easier on the back and neck

What people don’t realize. Is that I think it was around 10 years ago they did a complete retract. And they supposedly smoothed out a couple spots. Also the concept was to make it a rough and tumble space trip. If it’s too rough don’t ride it.

Leave Space Mtn. the way it is.

I’m local and go to the parks often. I stopped riding SM a long time ago because of how jerky it is. It just doesn’t even feel safe to me anymore. I’m really surprised that it hasn’t been a consideration of theirs to refurbish this ride. Let’s hope with all the other updates that this will be considered as well.
