Fans of the Star Wars franchise are set to lose a beloved show in the coming days.

Star Wars on TV
Star Wars effectively helped launch Disney’s streaming service, Disney+. Back in November 2019, Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian took the world by storm and introduced two new heroes for the next generation of fans: Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and his ward, The Child, AKA Grogu (AKA “Baby Yoda”).
Since 2019, the Star Wars streaming catalog has grown exponentially with live-action offerings, including The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Acolyte, and, most recently, Skeleton Crew. So far, though, only The Mandalorian and Andor have stood the test of time and had more than one season. That will change next year when Dave Filoni’s second season of Ahsoka drops.

While Skeleton Crew may have been Disney and Lucasfilm’s last new offering, May 2025 marked the end and closing chapter of Tony Gilroy’s Andor.
Andor Season 2 followed its first season to become the most critically acclaimed Star Wars show of all time and one of the best entries into the franchise ever, including movies. But soon, Andor will become unavailable for select viewers after being purged from a streaming service in the coming days.
“Both seasons of Disney and Lucasfilm’s Andor will be removed from Hulu as of Thursday, July 3,” The Direct wrote. “Now, with Disney holding full ownership over Hulu, the entertainment giant is removing one avenue many fans have used to enjoy the series over the years.”

Why is Andor being removed from Hulu?
In the U.S., Disney+ and Hulu continue to operate as standalone platforms. However, as of June 10, Disney has officially taken full ownership of Hulu after buying out Comcast’s remaining stake for nearly $9 billion.
While both services remain separate for now, Disney’s experience in global markets suggests that a unified platform could have strong appeal for subscribers. This could mean that the Disney offerings found on Hulu, like Andor, will soon be under one roof: Disney+.
The streaming landscape remains fiercely competitive, with Disney+ and Hulu going up against heavyweights like Netflix, Max, Amazon Prime Video, and Paramount+. Disney+ currently boasts around 126 million subscribers, while Hulu trails with approximately 53 million.
Notably, Disney has hinted at the possibility of no longer reporting its subscriber numbers publicly, following a precedent set by Netflix.

What is Star Wars: Andor?
Andor redefines Star Wars storytelling with a grounded, politically charged thriller set before Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). Season 1 tracked Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor from reluctant outsider to revolutionary, across 12 episodes.
With standout arcs like the Narkina-5 prison and Mon Mothma’s (Genevieve O’Reilly) secret rebellion-building, the series earned a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score and widespread praise from audiences and critics.
Season 2 built on that momentum, spanning four years in four three-episode arcs. The rebellion grew bolder with TIE fighter raids and ISB showdowns, while Ghorman rose as a pivotal battleground. With returning characters like Ben Mendelsohn’s Orson Krennic, the second season was celebrated and made history on review sites like IMDb.

Tony Gilroy’s show traded Jedi and lightsabers for spies, senators, and revolutionaries, crafting a slow-burn narrative. Both seasons, streaming on Disney+, elevated Star Wars into prestige TV territory—delivering some of the franchise’s most intelligent and impactful storytelling to date.
