From new rides and attractions to brand-new lands, things are always changing at the Disney theme parks. This year is an especially interesting one for Disney, as both of its U.S. theme park resorts are undergoing some massive transformations and overhauls.

This extends well beyond Disney’s theme parks, with hotels and other locations also receiving some makeovers. Disneyland has some big plans for its Downtown Disney hub, though some of these plans have changed.

The Downtown Disney Earl of Sandwich location will not be closing this weekend as initially announced. The fan-favorite quick-service location was scheduled to close on Saturday, July 26, but will instead remain open for an indefinite period this summer.

The Earl of Sandwich located at the former spot of Le Brea Bakery will eventually close to make way for construction on Porto’s Bakery. A brand-new Earl of Sandwich is being built and will be located on the opposite side of Downtown Disney when it opens.

Earl of Sandwich’s original July closing date was announced earlier this year. The eatery has changed locations multiple times during its time at Downtown Disney. The temporary Earl of Sandwich location in the former La Brea Bakery has been open since 2023. La Brea is set to be replaced by Porto’s Bakery, with a pop-up Earl of Sandwich being offered in the meantime.

Disney filed a permit to demolish the old La Brea Bakery building earlier this year.

Earl of Sandwich has become a core part of Downtown Disney, offering hot and fresh history-themed subs for over two decades. Guests will also find an Earl of Sandwich at Disney Springs, Walt Disney World’s outdoor shopping and dining center.

Disneyland is set to expand in big ways soon, namely with the arrival of James Cameron’s Avatar universe. A West Coast Pandora is currently in the works and is set to be built inside Disney California Adventure. Disneyland’s Pandora will require the closure of several locations, including Monsters Inc. Mike & Sully to the Rescue. The classic dark ride will close permanently in 2026.

Concept art revealed a lush world for guests to explore and at least one water ride. It’s unknown if Disneyland’s take on Pandora will mirror Walt Disney World’s or if it will be a completely new experience. One thing is for sure, Disneyland is far more limited on space than its Florida sibling.
