Corner TM here. This ride has been toned down for over 15 years now. The way the ride opened in 1999 was absolutely insane for a family ride; it would toss you worse than the Scrambler ride at the fairs. Sometime in the mid 2000’s the ride got nuked to a lot less forceless version. Then there was another incident around 2009 where the ride was once again reprogrammed for a short period, this time so it didn’t even spin at all, it just stayed straight. Whatever spinning versions existed in the 2010’s still are unlike anything what the ride opened as. Unfortunately the problem is always the same: inattentive parents letting children climb out.
I agree with RyanS, I have been going to Universal in Florida since it opened in 1990. I also recall being tossed around like a dish rag in the early days of the ride. I don’t know if I got older and larger so it wasn’t as easy to be tossed around, but having them tone down the spins is definitely a possibility, although I don’t know that for a fact. But regardless of the spinning or not spinning, of this ride or any other, why does the blame for a small child being hurt or scared always get placed on the ride. Where are the adults supervising the child when they are allowed to get on the ride, and where is the companion riding with them when they get scared or get tossed around roughly on a ride. I know when my children and now grandchildren go with me, they must 1st meet the criteria to be able to ride, and when riding with me, I have my hand holding theirs or my arm hooked through theirs or some way that I am physically aware of what they are doing. I do applaud a lot of theme parks (not all of them) when they encounter a new or unusual situation that poses a new ‘risk’ to the guests, they take steps to prevent a repeat of that same issue. Remember, a lot of times you can only be reactive to those situations that are different. But of course, nothing can replace good old common sense and keeping a watchful eye on your children!
The ride doesn’t spin as much because the company that made it is out of business. The company was also responsible for Men in Black: Alien Attack. When that ride needs parts, they take them from Cat in the Hat, because they can’t get new ones. THAT is why the ride is less thrilling.
Clearly everyone else is to blame, except the parents and their lack of responsibility of not watching their brat. Though in the future the park should use better restraints so this doesn’t happen again. And have height requirements as well
I have friends who works there. Some have been working there 10+ years this is not recent. If it did happen it must have been when it 1st opened. It seems like stories are popping up now because of what happened to the 14year old at Icon Park. Get the facts straight before posting or writing articles that I base on gossip.
Therefore my new system will not allow the rides to start unless seat straps harness’s and safety gear are all clicked and the ride control shows ( monitor ) that all is safe…It’s not the parents fault..Just use your heads the next time you order a new ride.. Did anyone sit in a meeting address this…I will be using mechanical.. electrical and electronics …Everything needs to click before any ride starts..

The manufacturer no longer exists. It’s broken and can’t be fixed. That’s why it’s less intense.

I wonder why a parent was not with the child watching.
My family enjoys Universal but they have to maybe upgrade the safety
