Greed has put the stop to a lot of things. Sadly the Disney magic is gone. It’s not fair at all to those that have to stay on phone to get a restaurant or having check ride times all day! We do not take phones to parks. We loved the spur of the moment decisions in the parks! But no more! Standing in line when cast let 60 LL ride then only let 3 in standby lane in is not right! I don’t care what anyone says it’s not right! Fast pass worked so much better! And do away with the park reservations! Greed Greed Greed. No magic left!
So, my opinion may be skewed because our last Disney trip was before genie, so late summer/fall 2021. But I kind of feel like if people think Disney is too structured or scheduled, it’s because they themselves are making it that way. They’re slaves to their phones. My SIL is actually there right now and we are getting non stop updates in the family group text. It’s like, stop updating us and enjoy your trip! My daughter and I had a rule of no phones except to look up food options near us when we were hungry, or at the hotel while we were relaxing. You wouldn’t believe how many times there would be gaps in the lines because people had their faces buried in their phones! That’s ruining the magic, not Disney. People can’t unplug and make decisions without technology. It’s like only relying on GPS rather than road signs. There has to be a balance. The app is helpful, it’s not suppose to guide everything you do, lol! Contrary to what people think, you don’t have to be on your phones a lot. Maybe with that genie thing to reserve lines. Or to make dinner reservations. But that shouldn’t take up your whole trip. But for us, we booked sit down dinner reservations before our trip. Anything we couldn’t book, I didn’t stress during the trip by trying to get. I never tried to get reservations. We ate at the ones I reserved prior, and any other time we just ate at counter places (which there are so many good ones now! It’s not all chicken tenders and hamburgers!) That BBQ place at Animal Kingdom? Definitely didn’t taste like fast food to us! We didn’t have a plan during our trip, we just walked around. Haunted mansion too long? Ok, we went over to Pirates. We got bored of the water park our last day and decided to go to Hollywood Studios on a whim. It should have cost a one day park fee because we didn’t have any park days left. But they added it as an extra day onto our package and it was a fraction of the one day cost. All because we were spontaneous. We even got to ride Rise of Resistance (which was virtual at the time but we somehow got on the list) The thing is, YOU have to be flexible. If you plan every little detail you set yourself up for disappointment when something doesn’t work out. But to be fair, I have heard frustrating things about genie/lightning lane. But we’ve never done fast lanes, even before genie. I don’t like having to be at a ride at a certain time. So I guess I can see folks issues if they’re doing it. Maybe don’t and see if the vacation is better. It is for us! The lines aren’t near as long as you think on standby. But if they are, you can go something else. That’s the beauty of it. That sends a message to Disney too. People get caught up in rat race behavior and don’t like genie, but feel like they have to do it.
I also miss the spontanety of the parks. The magic is truly gone. We went last year & it was not fun. I did not want to ever go back. My grandson wants to go this year. We are going & I know we will all not be happy with the lines. So miss the fast passes, they worked just fine. Greed is the order of the day with Disney! It will never be good anymore. We have been to Disney over 24 times, but it’s a shame they don’t care about the guests anymore. No Magic!
