It’s THE hot Marvel Studios ticket this festive season, and now, Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) fans may have just received the confirmation they’ve been looking for.

There has been intense speculation the last few months over the plot and cast for Kevin Feige’s upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

The third installment of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movie saga, No Way Home looks to be a dramatic and franchise-changing addition to the MCU timeline, and Sony and Holland may have just spoiled the rumor all fans are talking about.

Jon Watts returns this year with the third solo outing for the famous Marvel web-slinger following his successful Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). With rumors escalating among Marvel fans, social media is rife with speculation about the upcoming cast.

Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios have been tight-lipped on cast and story details, and with his previous track record of spoiling upcoming MCU movies, Tom Holland has been unusually silent on the marketing front for this movie.

Spider:Man: No Way Home will feature Benedict Cumberbatch in his fan-favorite role as Doctor Strange, alongside Zendaya (MJ), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Marisa Tomei (May Parker), and Jon Favreau (Harold “Happy Hogan), in a Multiversal series of events. The Multiverse was first seen in the MCU in the Disney+ series Loki starring Tom Hiddleston, and most recently in What If…?.

With the appearance of characters from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchises in the leaked trailer last month, fans believe that Peter Parker actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be appearing alongside Tom Holland in No Way Home.

So far, Jamie Foxx’s Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2 (2004) look set to star in the MCU Multiverse in some capacity. Rumors are also swirling that Eddie Brock/Venom (Tom Hardy) will also be making an appearance.

A new image was released today from Empire Magazine with a new look at Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus:

In an interview with Empire Magazine, Tom Holland revealed his doubts at the initial script of the movie and hinted at the multitude of actors fans will see:

“When I was first pitched the idea, I was like, ‘Wow, that would be awesome if we could pull it off’… But there’s just no way it’s going to work. You’re just not going to be able to get everyone to do what they need to do. It’s just not going to happen.’ But it did happen. And it’s crazy .”

It seems as though Holland thought Marvel Studios and Sony were trying to do the impossible – bring “everyone” together from the previous Spider-Man franchises. We already saw the magnitude of casting that can happen in a Marvel Studios movie in Avengers: Endgame (2019), so we have no doubt that Marvel and Sony can go one better and bring back previous incarnations of a famous hero.

Tobey Maguire portrayed the web-slinger in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, while Andrew Garfield played the Marvel hero in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Sony has been quiet and hasn’t released many statements about the movie’s cast thus far, but now, a new tweet changes that.

After Empire revealed a special magazine cover featuring Spider-Man’s new suit on Twitter, Sony Pictures UK’s official Twitter account replied with three spider emojis, potentially hinting at the rumored appearances of Maguire and Garfield’s respective web-slingers in Spider-Man: No Way Home:

Of course, Sony’s tweet could be a reference to Spider-Man: No Way Home being the third film in Tom Holland’s MCU trilogy. But given the continued rumors and multiversal madness expected in this movie, many believe this is a hint at three Spider-Man variants appearing.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is the last Marvel movie debuting in 2021, and thanks to Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), hopes of the Spider-Verse appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are coming alive.

With Eternals (2021) up next for Marvel’s 2021 theatrical takeover, Marvel fans speculate that the Multiverse will expand the Marvel collection of iconic characters and Marvel’s Avengers like never before.

It looks like No Way Home’s second trailer is being released soon, so maybe then Marvel fans will have their first look at Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield back in their Spidey suits. Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released in cinemas on December 17, 2021.
