Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) was The Walt Disney Company’s second foray into the Star Wars universe after purchasing Lucasfilm, Ltd. from George Lucas in 2012 — the studio’s first effort was sequel trilogy kickoff film Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015).
Rogue One, a standalone Star Wars movie, went through some production drama, but was overall well-received by both Star Wars fans and critics. The film maintains an 84% Fresh rating (and an 86% audience score) on Rotten Tomatoes.
Rogue One follows the adventures of Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and her unlikely band of companions, including Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and droid K-2S0 (Alan Tudyk) as they attempt to stop the Galactic Empire from deploying the first Death Star.
Erso’s father, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) was a “leading galactic authority on crystallography and energy enrichment,” according to his Wookieepedia entry. Erso was part of the Republic Futures Program, where he reluctantly helped to develop the DS-1 Death Star plans.
During his tenure on the project, Erso subtly sabotaged the design. This ultimately proved to be disastrous for Imperial forces.
Recently, Jones spoke out about her time on set — she has previously teased a possible return to the Star Wars franchise — and shared which somewhat surprising item she took home with her!

“I kept my boots from Rogue One,” Jones shared with Total Film, via a Digital Spy article.
She continued:
“I had these heavy army boots they attached velcro straps to, to make them more Star Wars. When I was in the gym I’d be running in the boots because I knew I had to do all these running sequences in them, and I didn’t want to be sprawling all over the place. So I became very attached to that pair of boots and I was given them. I did wear them a few times after, I just took the velcro off. No one knew they had been through a galaxy.”
Rogue One‘s role in the Star Wars story isn’t done yet, with prequel series Andor set to debut on the Disney+ streaming platform sometime in 2022. The series will see Luna reprise his role as rakish Rebel spy Cassian Andor, but is unlikely to feature other characters from Rogue One, as it takes place about five years before the film.
From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars stand-alone films — Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together to on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
What do you think about the item Felicity Jones chose to take home from the Rogue One set? Are you looking forward to Andor?
