In recent months, actress Amber Heard has faced her fair share of backlash on the internet. Last fall, Heard won a libel case in the U.K. High Court after alleging in U.K. News Group Newspaper publication, The Sun, that her ex-husband Johnny Depp engaged in domestic violence against her on multiple occasions.

Judge Andrew Nicol seemingly believed that Heard’s claims that she was abused, and even held hostage during a Pirates of the Caribbean shoot in Australia, were accurate, despite Depp’s lawyer — and the actor himself — vehemently denying the claims from the start.

Even Depp’s exes Vanessa Paradis and Winona Rider came to his defense, and yet, the Jack Sparrow actor was recently denied the right to appeal his libel lawsuit loss in the United Kingdom. There is, however, still a chance that the former couple’s $50 million civil suit in the United States will be thrown out, particularly since there are reports that Heard is being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for perjury and could even face jail time.

As a result of the ongoing controversy and domestic abuse allegations, Depp’s acting career in Hollywood has been on a downward slide. The popular actor has lost both of his most well-known roles — Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and Gellert Grindelwald in Warner Bros. Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Unsurprisingly, Depp’s fans almost immediately leaped to his defense on social media, with many seemingly legitimately shocked that the same studio that fired Johnny Depp is continuing to employ his ex-wife Amber Heard. Keep in mind that these are all movie fans’ opinions and any allegations against Heard have not been proven in a court of law at this time.

A user going by Vincent LaGuardia Gambini shared his thoughts on the situation, writing:

By hiring Amber Heard, WB sends the message that it doesn’t matter if a woman abuses a man.

Tell them they are wrong.

Just a quick reminder that Amber Heard admitted to abusing Johnny Depp yet she still has her work whilst he is blacklisted. Do not support this movie. #FireAmberHeard

A Tweet by user Ellie Schuster reads:

Why won’t people listen & do the right thing? Maybe bc it never happened to them they turn a blind eye to the abuse Johnny Depp suffered at the hands of Amber Heard. Doesn’t he count as a victim of DV, lies & an elaborate hoax?

Keep in mind that, once again, that the opinions shared on social media do not necessarily reflect what is occurring in Depp and Heard’s legal proceedings.

What do you think? Should Amber Heard be allowed to stay in the cast of Aquaman 2?
