An age-old debate has been reignited following Disney’s latest announcement, completely ignoring Florida once again.

The legal and political battle between Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and The Walt Disney Company has inevitably impacted the image of both parties and led to multiple rumors and speculations about Disney’s exodus from the Sunshine State.

Problems like the divisive Parental Rights in Education bill—commonly known as “Don’t Say Gay”—DeSantis’ claim over the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (formerly known as Reedy Creek Improvement District or RCID), and a series of lawsuits flying back and forth have only stoked the fire.

Sadly, the company’s latest announcement could rekindle the unspoken competition between the Happiest Place on Earth and the Most Magical Place on Earth, overshadowing Disney World once again.

Earlier today, Disneyland teased the arrival of two new villains for this year’s Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure, inviting guests to “let the frightfully fun guessing begin!”

This yearly tradition allows guests to guess which Disney character will be featured in the new immersive treat trails at the Halloween event, and the clues are pretty evident in this year’s video.

Hades from the 1997 Disney movie Hercules and the hilariously evil Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb are planned to debut later this year at Disney California Adventure to interact with guests attending the popular Halloween event. You can see the video shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) by @thecalibae below.

Regardless of the announcement mentioning two villains, the video starts with what appears to be a wheelchair, and Disney rarely shows details like this unintentionally. This could lead to speculation about a third villain arriving at this year’s Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure.

Who, you may ask? Well, one notable character in a wheelchair comes to mind: Dr. Finkelstein from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). However, this remains pure speculation as of the publication of this article.

The debut of several popular characters at Disneyland Resort — and ironically at Disneyland Paris Resort — like Ahsoka Tano from the Disney+ original series expanding George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise to Deadpool, who has stirred conversation among parents, constantly sparks debate among fans.

Of course, seeing new characters debut yearly at Oogie Boogie Bash is enraging to Disney World fans. But with a 43 square mile complex housing four theme parks and over 25 Disney Resort hotels, cheaper hotel rates, unique events, and a bigger castle (which everyone seems to be proud of), does The Walt Disney Company really need to be fair to Florida?

As always, you have the final word. Do you think it’s unfair that Disney continues to debut new characters at Disneyland Resort instead of Walt Disney World Resort? Share your opinion with Inside the Magic and our readers in the comments below!
