Kevin Feige’s Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has blown Marvel fans’ minds with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
A Multiverse of characters was brought into the MCU in the movie, with a spell cast by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) bringing the Amazing Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) and the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) into Tom Holland’s world.
Fans have been wondering if Maguire and Garfield were at the movie’s premiere due to the secrecy surrounding their appearances in the Marvel and Sony film, and now it’s been revealed that they DID see No Way Home, albeit in disguise.
Every Spider-Man and Marvel fan seemingly screamed in the movie theatre when Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returned as their iconic Marvel characters in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The collective cinematic experience provided by Avengers: Endgame (2019) felt like a one-of-a-kind moment for Marvel fans, but No Way Home brought another level of cheers to cinemas.
The official trailer for Jon Watts’ No Way Home broke the internet last year, with the appearance of characters like Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchises having fans believe that Peter Parker actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would appear alongside Tom Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After a lengthy dispute, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige did not show the two Spider-Man stars in the official trailer for the MCU movie, which of course led to great fan reactions when the movie was released in December and we finally saw them come through Ned’s portal.
At the premiere for the eagerly-awaited Spider-Man: No Way Home in Los Angeles on December 13, 2021, stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, and Jon Favreau made their appearance on the red carpet, revealing no secrets along the way.
Marvel fans wondered if Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would turn up, or at least be snuck in so they could experience the premiere.
In fact, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, whose involvement in the record-breaking Marvel superhero movie was being kept a secret at the time in order to protect spoilers, were forced to stay home. Garfield has now revealed that the two actors decided to sneak into a public screening of the film on opening night and watch No Way Home together.
Garfield told Entertainment Tonight about his and Maguire’s secret movie comradery and disguise:
“I still can’t believe it happened. I snuck into a theater on opening night and just watched with my baseball cap on and my mask. In fact, I was also with Tobey. Me and Tobey snuck into a theater together and no one knew we were there. It was just a really beautiful thing to share together.”
It is so amazing to hear the two Spider-Man actors got to experience the reactions of fans on opening night incognito, although still a shame that they missed the world premiere at the Regency Bruin Theatre.
There are evidently many Marvel fans out there who unbeknownst to them saw Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside the two Peter Parker actors themselves! We at Inside the Magic wonder what Maguire and Garfield’s reactions were to the roar in the cinema when they came through the portals.
Many Marvel fans have reacted with humorous takes on Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s “brotherhood”. Spider-Man Shots posted a hilarious reaction on Twitter:

We wonder if Tom Holland has also joined Garfield and Maguire for a secret screening of Spider-Man: No Way Home?
Marvel and Disney have started an Academy Awards campaign in support of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. The multiversal movie skyrocketed to the top of the box office on its December release with $1.37 billion at the time of writing.
The movie has been well received by critics and audiences, scoring the #9 spot on IMDb’s Top 10 with a 9/10 rating and earning over 25,000 five-star reviews from fans (making it the highest scored Rotten Tomato film in history). Andrew Garfield also recently revealed that he improvised one of the movie’s most heartwarming lines.
Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Benedict Cumberbatch in his popular role as Doctor Strange, alongside Zendaya (MJ), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Marisa Tomei (May Parker), and Jon Favreau (Harold “Happy Hogan), in a Multiversal series of events. The Multiverse was first seen in the MCU in the Disney+ series Loki starring Tom Hiddleston, and most recently in What If…?.
