Recently, photos of Marvel Cinematic Universe stars Zendaya and Tom Holland kissing in a car surfaced, fueling rumors that the duo not only has a romantic relationship as MJ and Peter Parker in the MCU’s Spider-Man movies, but in real life, too!
Now, as the MCU cast gears up for the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home on December 17, 2021, Zendaya has spoken out about whether or not she is likely to act alongside her apparent boyfriend again — at least in the Marvel Universe. She told E! News:
“We don’t know if we’re gonna do another one. Like, is it just gonna be three and done? Normally you do three movies and that’s pretty much it, so I think we just were all absorbing and taking the time to just enjoy the moment, being with each other, and being so grateful for that experience.”
The upcoming Spider-Man film is the result of a two-movie deal Sony reached with Disney-owned Marvel Studios in 2019. At this time, there has been no confirmation of a fourth MCU Spider-Man movie, and it seems unlikely that it will happen.
As for No Way Home, reports of both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire returning to their Spider-Man roles are running rampant, but nothing has been confirmed — Holland has even denied that the other “Spider-Men” will be back for the movie, but with Marvel’s commitment to secrecy, this could be nothing more than a smokescreen.
Although we don’t know for sure that Garfield and Maguire will make their Multiverse debuts in Sam Raimi’s No Way Home, we can expect to see Mandalorian creator Jon Faveau back in the MCU as Happy Hogan! This is unsurprising — following Tony Stark’s death in Avengers: Endgame (2019), Hogan is likely to support Stark’s mentee, Parker –, but it is exciting for everyone who loves Favreau’s portrayal of the fan-favorite character.
Hogan first appeared as Stark’s (Robert Downey, Jr.) driver (and, more importantly, confidante) in the Iron Man trilogy (2008 – 2013). He has made appearances in both Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), even developing a romantic attachment to Aunt May (Marisa Tomei).
As for Emmy Award-winner Zendaya (The Greatest Showman), she shared the entire cast’s sentiments about the potential end of the MCU’s Spider-Man run in her E! News interview:
“When I did the first movie, I was 19. It’s pretty special growing up all together and being part of another legacy. It’s the Space Jam legacy and the Spider-Man legacy. There’s been so many different Spideys before us, and just kind of making everybody proud. So I don’t know, I feel very lucky to be a part of two kind of major legacy franchises.”
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) returns in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Our friendly neighborhood Super Hero decides to join his best friends Ned, MJ, and the rest of the gang on a European vacation. However, Peter’s plan to leave super heroics behind for a few weeks is quickly scrapped when he begrudgingly agrees to help Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) uncover the mystery of several elemental creature attacks. Spider-Man and Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) join forces to fight the havoc unleashed across the continent but all is not as it seems.
Do you think we’ll see Zendaya and Tom Holland onscreen together again in Spidey movies in the future?
