Hollywood icon, Academy Award-nominee Harrison Ford, has had a long career that began with an uncredited bit part in Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round in 1966. A decade later, after starring in American Graffiti, he played Han Solo in George Lucas’s Star Wars: A New Hope (1977), and the Star Wars fan community has loved the now 78-year-old actor ever since.
Now, the Blade Runner actor has teamed up with Wyoming Whiskey in an endeavor that Solo himself would definitely approve of (we met the man in a cantina, after all).
Ford served as creative director to help create bottles of whiskey that will support the United States National Parks Foundation. In a statement about the collaboration, the Star Wars and Indiana Jones legend said:
“For 35 years or so, I’ve been lucky enough to have a home in Wyoming. I am proud to work in conjunction with Wyoming Whiskey, my neighbors and friends, in support of the National Park Foundation…I’m very proud of what Wyoming Whiskey is doing with this event, as it is important to protect and restore these national treasures and keep them safe for future generations.”
Wyoming radio station KGAB AM shared these additional details about Ford’s participation in the project:
The second whiskey released is called ‘Wide Open Spaces – By Air’. Harrison Ford joined as creative director for the new whiskey. On each of its four different labels is an aerial image that was taken by Wyoming photographer Tuck Fauntleroy. Wide Open Spaces will be a little pricier.
Ford will lead a star-studded cast in his fifth outing as famed archaeologist Henry Jones, Jr. He last played the character in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008), so this new film has been a long time coming.
Other Star Wars alums — Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) — will join Ford in the action-adventure franchise’s next installment. Their specific roles are unknown at this time, but it has been confirmed that Waller-Bridge will play the female lead.
Steven Spielberg has stepped away from the director’s chair for this Indiana Jones movie, handing things over to James Mangold (Logan, Walk the Line, Heavy).
As the Indiana Jones franchise continues, it will be interesting to see if Indy pays tribute to his dad, Dr. Henry Jones, Sr. (Sean Connery) in the upcoming movie. Connery passed away in November 2020 and Ford shared memories about their time on set together.
