Star Wars star Daisy Ridley has shared a hilarious anecdote from when she was at school. The young future star tried to convince her classmates that she played an iconic character from the Harry Potter universe.
Find out how worlds collided and Harry Potter met Star Wars, years before Daisy joined the franchise!
Who did Daisy Ridley pretend to play?
In an interview with former American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, Ridley spoke about her hilarious prank. It turns out that the future Star Wars heroine, Rey, put up a picture of Moaning Myrtle from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets with the name Daisy Ridley underneath it.
She told Clarkson:
“Few people know this story […] I’m not proud of myself — I’m ashamed […] Wouldn’t it be amazing if people thought I played Moaning Myrtle? […] As if anyone I went to school with would believe that I played Moaning Myrtle”.
It seems that Ridley is a pretty big Harry Potter fan. Even after she had acted in two major Star Wars movies — prior to the release of the third sequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker — the young actor reportedly freaked out when acting alongside Harry Potter star Tom Felton. Ridley acted opposite of the Draco Malfoy star in a stage production of Ophelia!

Who is Moaning Myrtle?
Moaning Myrtle is, in fact, not played by Daisy Ridley. The character was actually played by Scottish actor Shirley Henderson, who was actually a full-grown adult playing a ghostly teenager!
For those who don’t remember, the character plays a major role in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. She had a crush on Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and lived in the second-floor girl’s bathroom.
It turns out that she was murdered by the Basilisk, otherwise known as the Serpent of Slytherin. At the time of the crime, it was under the control of Harry’s arch-nemesis, Tom Riddle, AKA Voldemort. Still, one thing’s for sure: she wasn’t portrayed by Ridley!
Daisy Ridley and the Star Wars series
Ridley is an essential part of the Skywalker saga. Well, the sequel trilogy at least. She plays Rey, a young Jedi who is trained by Luke Skywalker himself during the events of Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. She’s then trained by Skywalker’s sister Leia (Carrie Fisher) during The Rise of Skywalker.
However, she’s first introduced in The Force Awakens alongside newcomers Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Isaac). She quickly forms a close relationship with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and is even able to fly the Millennium Falcon like a pro.
In The Rise of Skywalker it is also revealed that Rey is actually a Palpatine. In fact, she’s the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine himself.
Every Star Wars fan can agree that Ridley is an essential part of the franchise! Even if she thinks Baby Yoda / Grogu is too cute to use the force!
What’s Daisy Ridley up to next?
The Star Wars actor recently appeared alongside Disney alumni Tom Holland in the film Chaos Walking. The supporting cast also includes the likes of Mads Mikkelsen, Cynthia Erivo, and it is an adaptation of a book by Patrick Ness. Back home in Britain, she also appeared on a celebrity special of The Great British Bake Off, though her cakes left much to be desired! Additionally, the actor also starred in a VR video game called Baby Yaga (not Baby Yoda!).
Ridley hasn’t been able to leave Star Wars behind, however. She has lent her voice to several Star Wars themed video games including Battlefront II and Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as well as the Rise of the Resistance ride. Needless to say, she portrayed Rey Skywalker in all of these productions.
As for what’s coming next, however, Ridley will reportedly be appearing in several films which are currently in production. These include The Marsh King’s Daughter, Women in the Castle, Young Woman and the Sea, and The Inventor. Additionally, she will star alongside James McAvoy and Willem Defoe in 12 Minutes, an upcoming indie game.
What she will not be starring in, is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, as Moaning Myrtle or any other character!
