The first official trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), which hits theaters on July 2 next year, might be getting closer by the hour, but with the trailer nowhere in sight, fans are becoming increasingly impatient and frustrated. Nevertheless, as the film is set to arrive in just six months, the teaser is likely to drop any day now. But how much will it reveal?

Starring Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Endgame) as covert operations expert Zora Bennett and Jonathan Bailey (Wicked) as paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, with a supporting cast that includes Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), Rupert Friend (Obi-Wan Kenobi), and Mahershala Ali (The Green Book), Jurassic World Rebirth marks the beginning of “a new Jurassic era.”

As such, we won’t see any original characters from previous films return.

The film’s creative team is equally star-studded.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (2014’s Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), written by David Koepp (Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park), produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley (the Jurassic World trilogy), and executive-produced by Steven Spielberg (who directed of the first two films), it seems like Jurassic World Rebirth is in safe hands.

The official synopsis from the film, shared by Universal Pictures earlier this year, promises “an ingenious new direction” and “action-packed new chapter” for the Jurassic franchise.

Rebirth has also retconned aspects of the latest sequel, Jurassic World Dominion (2022), which released dinosaurs into the wild around the world. “Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs,” the synopsis reads.

“Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.”

“Academy Award® nominee Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs,” it continues.

“When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.”

It’s a pretty meaty blurb considering we haven’t seen the trailer yet. But will it give as much away as the synopsis? Here’s what you can probably expect.

Call-Backs To Jurassic Park Films, Not World

Jurassic World Rebirth is said to be the beginning of “a new Jurassic era,” but it would be naïve to think that the seventh film in the franchise will wipe the slate clean entirely. While the synopsis suggests a heavy retcon where the Jurassic World trilogy is concerned, there will undoubtedly be many call-backs to the original 1993 film, at the very least.

So, expect to see Easter eggs, references, nods, and winks to Jurassic Park in the trailer, whether it’s a shot of someone eating Jell-O, a character uttering the words “clever girl,” or the equally iconic phrase, “Hold onto your butts,” Perhaps even a surprise cameo or two.

A Completely Different Vibe To Previous Films

Jurassic World Rebirth is shaping up to vastly different to its predecessors, not only in terms of wiping the slate clean where its characters are concerned (no-one from the previous films are expected to return or make any sort of appearance), but in terms of tone and style.

Tonally, the film will go back to Jurassic Park, as revealed by screenwriter David Koepp in a recent interview with The Discourse Podcast. Visually, Rebirth is likely to take on a more mature and grounded look compared to the previous Jurassic World films, perhaps similar to Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One, which is by far the grittiest-looking Star Wars film.

Don’t Expect To See Many Dinosaurs

So far, none of the promotional material has included any dinosaurs. All we’ve seen is the logo reveal in a small teaser, and three stills showing Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett and Jonathan Bailey’s Dr. Henry Loomis crouching in the long grass (not a good idea).

We’ve also had an image of Mahershala Ali’s Duncan Kincaid screaming at something in the dark while holding a red flare, which implies that Jurassic World Rebirth could be taking a similar less-is-more approach where its dinosaurs are concerned.

It’s also worth noting that director Gareth Edwards is known to use the creatures in his movies sparingly, almost to the point of frustration — see his 2010 indie hit, Monsters, and the 2014 Godzilla reboot.

A Subtle Hint at the “Sinister, Shocking Discovery”

While the synopsis from Universal Pictures mentions that Zora and her team “come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades,” at this point, there’s really no telling what that might be.

Whether this twist involves a secret island, a tribe of some kind (set photos include jungle temple ruins), more dino-hybrids, or dino-human hybrids per online rumors, we’ll just have to wait and see. However, the trailer is likely to hint at this in some way, as it would be a huge draw for fans keen to find out whether it will be a game-changer for the franchise.

Something Very Divisive

These days, almost every trailer–especially when it comes to sequels and reboots–tends to cut the fanbase down the middle. And Jurassic World Rebirth is likely to be no exception. Whether it’s the “shocking” twist or a retcon of some kind, fans will probably be left divided.

While none of the trailers for the previous Jurassics were controversial, some of the films themselves made some bold decisions that angered fans, such as the introduction of a human clone in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and the fact that Jurassic World Dominion squandered the opportunity to focus on dinosaurs living around the world.
