You’d best hold onto your butts for this rumored Jurassic World 4 plot…

Utter the words “dinosaur-human hybrid” to any diehard Jurassic fan and they’ll know exactly what you’re talking about. In the years that followed the release of Jurassic Park III (2001), the proposed script for a fourth movie came to light — and it was absolutely bonkers.

Penned by John Sayles, it follows a mercenary named Nick Harris (Buffy‘s David Boreanaz was touted to play him) who winds up training raptors. While it sounds like an early draft for Jurassic World (2015), it makes that film look unquestionably believable by contrast.

Harris is hired by John Hammond to retrieve Dennis Nedry’s lost Barbasol can on Isla Nublar, however, after recovering the item, he is abducted and taken to a medieval castle in the Swiss Alps where he meets an evil baron who shares his plans to create dino-human hybrid soldiers (which were revealed in some alleged concept art years later).

While that script is seemingly as extinct as dinosaurs, “something has survived.” Jurassic World‘s raptor whisperer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) is essentially Nick Harris, and the dino-hybrid Indominus Rex is obviously a far more accessible version of those hybrids.

However, many fans don’t realize that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) takes more from Sayles’ script than its predecessor does. It introduces human cloning (Maisie Lockwood) and another hybrid known as the Indoraptor, which is also part-human (both films also openly toy with the idea of training dinosaurs for military purposes).

The second half of Fallen Kingdom even takes place in Lockwood Manor, which, at times, feels like a medieval castle. Director JA Bayona might admittedly be a fan of horror movies, but between both films, it’s fair to say Sayles’ script lives on in some shape or form.

Well, if you thought that seeing dead characters coming back to life in another upcoming Jurassic Park sequel was bad enough, now, according to entertainment insider V Scooper on X/Twitter, rumor has it Jurassic World 4, which was announced by Universal Pictures just a few weeks ago, will follow a “rescue team” led by a “John Wick-inspired character” in a plot that features “a hybrid human-dinosaur serum.” Yikes.

Check out the tweet below:

JURASSIC PARK (rumors) – A rescue team ventures into an island ruled by dinosaurs to save scientists – The main hero to be a “John Wick” inspired character – A hybrid human-dinosaur serum is uncovered at the end – Focused on action and visuals Nothing definite yet.

Unsurprisingly, fans have taken to the comments section to air their opinions.

@maxburfield06 doubts the rumored plot has any truth to it, adding that “awful reviews” for the film would “destroy the franchise”:

Doubt this is true but if it is that sounds absolutely awful “human dinosaur” that sounds absolutely terrible and would destroy the franchise with awful reviews I don’t believe this rumour though

@daberries2 makes an interesting point, saying that this plot “had David Leitch all over it.” The Deadpool 2 (2018) and Bullet Train (2022) director known for his high-octane action movies was attached to the project shortly after it was announced, before he exited over reportedly having “different views” with the other creatives involved:

This had David Leitch all over it. I’m sure this story will be polished to a more grounded movie

@spineNATEsaurus kindly shares the aforementioned concept art that is allegedly connected to the defunct Jurassic Park 4 script in question:

OH NO! After all these years… They’re making John Sayles’s Jurassic Park 4!?!?!

While incredibly entertaining, the Jurassic sequels aren’t known for their thought-provoking storylines (practically everything beyond 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park), but this rumored plot sound even more outlandish than Jurassic World Dominion (2022), which focuses on a horde of genetically modified super locusts.

What’s particularly bizarre, though, is the mention of a “John Wicked-inspired character” (isn’t that what the pyroclastic cloud-surviving Owen Grady is?) and, of course, a “human-dinosaur hybrid serum.” With a director like Gareth Edwards now attached (Godzilla 2014 and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), it’s hard to imagine this plot being legitimate, but only time will tell.

With that all said, this rumor is best taken with a huge pinch of salt. The same can be said about the rumored title Jurassic City, which this plot doesn’t seem to line up with. Unless there’s some sort of secret city on the island that’s inhabited by dinosaur-human hybrids… We shudder to think.

We still don’t even know for sure whether the film is even a sequel. What we do know is that Jurassic World 4 is scheduled for release on July 2, 2025, and that screenwriter David Koepp (Jurassic Park and The Lost World), Jurassic World producers Patrick Cowley and Frank Marshall, and executive producer Steven Spielberg, are back on board.

Lately, the Jurassic franchise is the gift that keeps on giving.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (2020 — 2022) is getting a follow-up in the form of another animated series titled Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (2024), which is heading to Netflix this year. We’ve also seen the trailer for the upcoming first-person, action-adventure video game Jurassic Park: Survival (TBA), which takes place directly after the 1993 film.

But movies, television shows, and video games aren’t the only way to get up, close, and personal with InGen’s dinosaurs. Be sure to check out Jurassic World: The Exhibition, Jurassic World Live Tour, and the Universal Studios theme park attractions such as Jurassic Park River Adventure and Jurassic World: The Ride.
