During a recent media appearance, Tom Holland confirmed that the beginnings of Spider-Man 4 (TBA) are already in the works. However, he needs something very important for him to come back.

Spider-Man is easily the most prolific superhero in cinema. The iconic hero has seen ten movies released in theaters with multiple different people portraying the titular character. Tobey Maguire played him in the Sam Raimi films, Andrew Garfield took over in The Amazing Spider-Man movies, and Shameik Moore (as well as dozens of other people) have voiced variants of Spider-Man in the Spider-Verse films.

However, the most popular version of the Web-Slinger is portrayed by Tom Holland for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. First introduced in Captain America: Civil War (2016), Holland’s Spider-Man has featured in the three highest-grossing superhero films of all time: Avengers: Endgame (2019), Avengers: Infinity War (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).

In fact, the three movies starring Holland as Spider-Man are some of the most well-reviewed movies in the MCU, each earning above 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is primarily to do with his incredible performance as Peter Parker, as well as the supporting cast, which has featured Zendaya as Mary Jane Watson, Jacob Batalon as Ned, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Michael Keaton as Vulture, Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio, Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius, and Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin.

It’s not surprising, then, to hear that fans want more of Holland’s Wall-Crawler. And according to Tom Holland himself, things are working behind the scenes to make it happen.

During a recent press conference at the Critics Choice Association, Tom Holland confirmed that there have been talks to start working on Spider-Man 4. However, for the film to finally be made, the story must be absolutely perfect.

“All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character,” said Holland. “Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing. I feel very protective over Spider-Man.”

Holland continued, “I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy. So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.”

Holland then went on to explain how much Spider-Man means to him. “But that said, if we can figure that out, I would be a fool not to put the suit back on again because I owe everything to Spider-Man. I love the character and the people I get to work with. So, I would love to tell another story, but I’ll only tell it if we can find the right one.”

Nothing else has been confirmed regarding when Spider-Man 4 will be released or what the film will be about. However, it’s safe to assume that the story will somehow involve Venom. Not only did Eddie Brock and Venom (played by Tom Hardy) appear in the MCU at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), but a piece of Venom’s symbiote was left behind in the post-credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

On top of the reference to Venom audiences saw in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), Venom has also leaped in popularity due to his portrayal by Tony Todd in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (2023) for the PS5. Based on all this, it is clear that the MCU will finally get injected with some Venom.
