Disney Genie Continues To Confuse and Frustrate Guests

Genie and money sign coming from mouth

Walt Disney World and Disneyland both have so many great and immersive attractions ranging from exciting thrill rides like Splash Mountain and Space Mountain to creepy ghost-filled houses with The Haunted Mansion, but due to the popularity of all the Disney Resorts, Guests will for sure be waiting in line at one point or another. The recent solution to this problem came in the form of Disney Genie and Genie+, a service Disney World and Disneyland both offer as a way to help Guests not spend so much time in line. But recently, more discrepancies were found in what Genie+ actually offers Guests while in Disney Parks.

The implementation and release of Genie and Genie+ at Walt Disney World and Disneyland has been rocky, to say the least, with many Disney World and Disneyland Guests wondering if Disney Genie+ is even worth the price. Some even deducted that Disney might be artificially inflating wait time so people feel pressured to purchase Genie+ or the Lightning Lane add-ons. One example of this recently popped up on Twitter with a Guest pointing out the d3scrpencey between what Genie+ says and what the actual posted wait time of the ride was.

On Twitter, Darren, a dog liker (@tai_nugget), tweeted a photo revealing that not only did Disneyland remove the single rider entrance for Spider-Man Web SLingeers, but the posted wait time was nearly two hours shorter than what Genie+ said on the app. See the Tweet below:

Ok, 2 things: 1) The Single Rider signage for Web Slingers is gone 2) They are currently posting this independently-purchased $18 LL ride at 125 minutes. That wait is 18 minutes. If that.

As the Tweet states, the single rider line for WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure in Disneyland’s Avengers Campus has been removed, leaving Guests with only the standby or Lightning Lane options. More important, however, is the huge discrepancy between the posted wait time and what Genie+ says. A nearly two-hour difference is definitely a big jump, and when Disney is offering the ability to bypass the “long” wait times with an individual Lightning lane for $18, Guests are left wondering if this is intentional or not.

Melissa (LissaBriana) responded, saying:

This is not a good look. I know they have always inflated wait times but this seems excessive and a little gross.

John Singh (@JJSingh) replied:

I don’t really understand this whole system. They’re trying to charge $18 to wait two hours? Do I understand that correctly?

Later on, @tai_nugget created another thread showing more inaccuracies with the Disney Genie+ system and wait times.

Throughout the Twitter thread, the Guest shows the discrepancies between Disney Genie and the real wait times. They shared the details of another Guest who traveled with them, and the wait times they experienced, Tweeting:

Summer has boarded Guardians, a wait of 49 minutes. This was accurate according to the physical posting at the ride entrance, but is off by 21 minutes to the app posting. App time inflated by 43%.

Disney Genie and Genie+, as well as Lightning Lanes, are new and slight speedbumps are expected. While many Guests chalk all of this up to system error or the app being recently implemented, the number of issues and errors is concerning. Just as many Guests wonder if Disney is pushing Disney Genie+ onto Guests by artificially inflating wait times so Guests will buy the individual Lightning Lanes, this report is just by one Guest, but these problems have been felt by many who visit the Parks.
