When Walt Disney World Resort debuted its Happily Ever After fireworks spectacular at Magic Kingdom Park on May 12, 2017, it almost immediately became a fan-favorite. So, when the show was permanently retired on September 29, 2021, it was a sad occasion for many Disney Park goers, who flooded Main Street, U.S.A. for its last hurrah.

Out with the old and in with the new, though, as Disney has had a brand new fireworks show — Disney Enchantment — waiting in the wings for Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary celebration! Fans began camping out in front of Cinderella Castle hours early on its October 1, 2021 debut date in hopes of having the best seat in the house.

One of the questions on everyone’s minds has been exactly how long Disney Enchantment will last. Will it, for example, end when The World’s Most Magical Celebration does in 2023?

During a Walt Disney World Resort 50th anniversary media event, Disney Enchantment Show Director Mark Renfrow commented on this, stating:

“Right now this is obviously 50 years in the making, this show. We just feel like this is something that is finally culminating. This is going to be a gift for right now. However, there is no end time on this. This is going to go as long as the Guests like it. And so, as far as I’m concerned, I think it will be around for a while.”

It is worth noting that Disney World officials do not typically place end dates on nighttime spectaculars when they debut — Happily Ever After also had no confirmed end in sight when it premiered — so this is not unusual.

However, it is good for travelers to know that they don’t have to rush to Orlando right away to see Disney Enchantment. It sounds as if the odds are good that the new Magic Kingdom castle fireworks show will stick around after the 50th anniversary celebration ends, though Renfrow did not officially confirm this.

The Show Director went on to share details about the immense care that went into crafting every detail of Disney Enchantment so it would appeal to Disney fans:

“With a show like Disney Enchantment, it’s all about magic. So I think you’re going to see nods in different ways to show that have come before it. We love everything that has been here before and we know that our Guests do as well. So I think we put purposefully little moments, almost like little Easter eggs, moments that touch the heart. If it touched the heart before, why not try that again? But it might be in a different way. So I think you’re going to have moments, even musically in the score, working with our composers, there’s little moments in there. Just like visual Easter eggs, this has some audio Easter eggs in there. So for those that really know the shows inside and out, keep your ears open, you might hear a little nod as well.”
