Walt Disney World Resort fans have been waiting for EPCOT’s new Harmonious fireworks spectacular to debut for quite some time. The show — billed as Disney’s largest-ever nighttime spectacular — was announced prior to 2020’s pandemic-related closure.

Now, finally, fans have gotten to witness the highly-anticipated show for the very first time on Walt Disney World Resort’s official 50th anniversary, October 1, 2021.

Many Disney Park-goers have taken to social media to share their thoughts regarding EPCOT’s new fireworks spectacular, and many Guests can’t get enough!

The disney_tricks Instagram account noted:

It was such a blast seeing Harmonious for the first time! There are definitely a few surprises and a whole lot of fun, current songs! They shared Moana, Lion King, Hunchback and many more Disney original songs! What stole the show though were…. THE LIGHTS ON THE EPCOT BALL! Wow oh wow they were BEAUTIFUL! I also loved that the ending lights/water display continued on until close! All in all, a great news fireworks show!

Another Instagram user, Amanda, loved Harmonious, writing:

You know that line in Elf where he says, “I’m in love! I’m in love and I don’t care who knows it!”

Yes. I don’t care what other people are saying. Yes, it had some weird animation. Yes, it’s not illuminations. But wow! I was not expecting this and I love it!

Mr. Daps was also a fan of the new nighttime show, summing up his thoughts in a short caption:

Such a fun night at EPCOT watching Harmonious! I really enjoyed it!

Not all fans immediately loved the show, but acknowledged that it did have incredible moments, and that certain viewpoints are better than others based on the setup of the barges and the location where the fireworks are set off. Coasterlocity wasn’t fully sold on Harmonious based on its debut, for instance, but did enjoy the show overall:

Saw Harmonious at EPCOT, definitely room for improvement but overall an awesome end to a night at the park.

I couldn’t get a full video of the show tonight due to technical difficulties but i should be able to do so on Monday from a better vantage point.

Reactions to Disney’s official live stream of Harmonious on September 29, 2021 were something of a mixed bag — we encourage you to go see the show for yourself, as Guests who witnessed the EPCOT nighttime spectacular in person seemed to thoroughly enjoy it on the whole.

A YouTube user going by IPD VB shared his thoughts about the video of the show:

These transitions between the songs are so rough… Truly a horrendous flow. Very surprised by that, given the amount of effort that went into creating the different segments. That kinda sums up my feelings about the show in general. Clearly a lot of people worked hard on it, and the tech is visibly impressive but it all kind of amounts to nothing much. They would’ve been so much wiser to just keep IllumiNations or revamp it and simply add a preshow featuring this idea of the different World Showcase countries singing a few Disney songs in their style. But no. They had to, once again, dumb down their brand. How do they think this won’t affect them in the long run?

Simply Adventures feels that the show is not impressive enough to warrant the permanent nature of the Harmonious barges:

Yeah that’s definitely disappointing and it’s not something that most people are going to come back and watch for a second time. The show definitely doesn’t outweigh how ugly it is during the day.

Phillip Paree seemed to echo the sentiments of most fans who watched Harmonious online for the first time, but did note he hoped viewing the show in-person would be a significantly different, more positive, experience:

This just felt…odd. Disjointed. The long pauses didn’t help, I get that they’re still working out the bugs but wow. The tech is cool, but boo on less fireworks. The ending was very abrupt and left me thinking…was that it? I think part of the problem was all the different changes in perspective. I also watched a continuous shot from a YouTuber and it was a BIT better…a little easer to follow. I dunno, hopefully seeing it in person I’ll change my mind but as of now I’m hoping whoever worked on the Beacons of Light for Spaceship Earth gets a crack at reworking Harmonius.
