Scottish actor Ewan McGregor joined the Star Wars franchise during the prequel trilogy years, portraying Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), and Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005).
In a recent appearance, McGregor shared a hilarious story about a lightsaber duel and a rockstar. Yes, you read that right. During a Jimmy Kimmel Live! interview, McGregor said:
“Well, it was Noel Gallagher’s 30th birthday party and he lived quite close to me in London, north London,” McGregor said. “And I was at his party and then there was a lightsaber fight in his garden very early the next day in the morning. But I don’t remember too much instruction. I don’t remember any lessons being given by Noel. It was just more of a battle in the garden.”
Obi-Wan Kenobi will be set on Tatooine approximately ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, which featured the execution of Emperor Palpatine’s Order 66 — and Anakin Skywalker’s slaughter of the younglings at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
It is not yet known how large of a role young Luke Skywalker’s childhood will play in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, but Bonnie Piesse and Joel Edgerton are set to reprise their roles as Beru and Owen Lars, so it seems likely we will get some additional backstory.
What do you think about Ewan McGregor’s lightsaber battle with a rockstar? Are you looking forward to the new Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series on Disney+?
