Even though Marvel’s latest television series wrapped over a week ago, fans are still clamoring for more content from the original streaming smash, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The Avenger adventure thriller debuted in March, joining WandaVision as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first foray into television and its launch of Phase 4.
Now fans are calling for a new The Falcon and the Winter Soldier cut — And Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier) joins in.
Despite The Falcon and the Winter Soldier — which was created by Empire‘s Malcolm Spellman and directed by Kari Skogland (The Walking Dead, The Handmaid’s Tale) — receiving mixed reactions from critics and Marvel fans, the outpouring of love for the show’s two leads has been monumental.
The series brings Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson / Falcon and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier together in an unlikely team-up. The two characters were last seen in the fighting Thanos (Josh Brolin) in the ruins of the Avengers Campus alongside the MCU’s mega cast of superheroes, led by their friend, Captain America Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).
As The Falcon and the Winter Soldier aired each week — and as you can expect with any of Kevin Feige’s Marvel projects — the rumor mill ran wild. There were theories that Tatiana Maslany would make her MCU debut as the lawyer Jennifer Walters AKA She-Hulk.
Another fan-favorite theory suggested that returning cast member Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter wasn’t all she said she was. And then, there was the idea that Steve Rogers would make a shocking cameo in the finale.
But, what was surprising is how Marvel released extra content at the demand of fans.
Episode 3 “Power Broker” saw Daniel Brühl’s Baron Helmut Zemo — the anti-hero that has become a beloved fan-favorite — bring Sam and Bucky to the shady criminal city of Madripoor. A scene involving Zemo dancing sparked an internet storm with fans calling for a #ReleaseTheZemoCut, after Marvel confirmed a longer version of the scene exists.
And now, Marvel fans have called for a new The Falcon and the Winter Soldier cut after Spellman discussed one specific relationship in a recent interview with Inverse. No, it’s not the Sam/Bucky relationship some viewers want but the Bucky/Sarah flirtations that Marvel fans want more of.
What did Malcolm Spellman Say?
First off, let’s take a look at what the Marvel creator said. Speaking to Inverse Spellman discussed some of the relationships in the show.
“I don’t know about them as a permanent team, but I would argue that Bucky does seem like Sam’s family now. I can imagine Sam comes home to Louisiana on occasion and finds Bucky eating at the table and who knows, you know what I’m saying? I mean, him and Sarah [Adepero Oduye] had a little, you know, little flirtation going on.”
Oduye’s character was first introduced into the MCU canon in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as Sam’s sister, where her stellar performance would provide a grounded relief from the superhero antics in the rest of the television show. Well, in true Marvel fan fashion, the internet quickly exploded with love for the Bucky and Sarah pairing, launching the #ReleaseTheBuckySarahCut trend on social media.
What are the fans saying?
One user, nyks, asked:
are you telling me that Sarah and Bucky have more scenes, and they chose not to add those scenes? #ReleaseTheBuckySarahCut

One Twitter user, klaus mikaelson, shared their thoughts, saying:
the fact that there are more scenes of them flirting but we didn’t get to see them is a literal crime #ReleaseTheBuckySarahCut

And if Marvel doesn’t heed the thoughts of these outraged fans, their own White Wolf might get the studio to follow up on the request.
Sharing to his Instagram followers, Sebastian Stan joined in on the growing hashtag.
Shortly after, Adepero Oduye joined the Bucky/Sarah revolution.

While Marvel Studios haven’t commented on any further behind-the-scenes content, they do have a track record of giving fans what they want. With its two stars calling for the Bucky/Sarah cut, who knows what might happen.
For a deeper understanding of the creative process behind The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Disney+ has just released its second episode of ASSEMBLED, going undercover on the set of the Marvel television show and featuring exclusive interviews with its cast and crew.
What’s next for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?
With a submission entry into the Drama Series category at the Emmys, and most of the cast on board, there are many suggestions that Marvel may produce a Season 2 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. New villains have been introduced and Wyatt Russell’s John Walker has been set up for a potential new scheme, so it’s wide open when it comes to Marvel continuing the streaming show.
That being said, with the recently announced Captain America 4 project from Malcolm Spellman, fans may get reunited with their new star-spangled hero on the big screen as well as on the Disney+ Original.
Looking at Sebastian Stan’s future, the Winter Soldier actor has been highly rumored to take over the Luke Skywalker mantle from Mark Hamill, playing a young version of the Jedi in a reported upcoming Luke Skywalker spin-off. Although, neither the Walt Disney Company or Lucasfilm have commented or confirmed any of these rumors. Stan has most recently starred in ICF Films’ Monday (2020) alongside Denise Gough.
