It was an eventful night for Spaceship Earth at Epcot in Walt Disney World today! Although Disney World is known for its innovative and safe rides, our iconic silver sphere had a bit of trouble tonight and had to send Disney Guests packing.

Our senior editor Katrina Allen was enjoying Spaceship Earth and all its space glory right before EPCOT Park closed for the day. However, the ride was interrupted by a bright light and an announcement that she and other Disney Guests would have to evacuate the attraction with the assistance of Disney Cast Members.

Cast Members alerted Disney Guests that they would be safely exiting the Disney attraction while practicing social distancing. Disney’s commitment to providing safety measures to Guests who visit, even in times of technical difficulties and evacuations, is important. These evacuations may take a very long take time, but Disney ensures that with COVID-19 a concern, these procedures come first.

See the videos where Disney Guests are slowly exiting the Omnimover-style vehicle and climbing down a steep stairway out of Spaceship Earth. You can only imagine what Disney Guests were feeling when they were stuck at the highest point of the ride.

One by one, Disney Guests were escorted by Cast Members with flashlights to safely guide them out. This is not the first time that this ride has had some issues this year. Just last month, Disney fans on Instagram showcased their Disney ride breakdown experience on Spaceship Earth in Walt Disney World.

Keep in mind that Disney is continuing a lot of construction all around EPCOT! For starters, Club Cool and Mousegear (now reimagined into Creations Shop) are receiving makeovers. The Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attraction is anticipated by many, a sparkling new lighting for Spaceship Earth is coming for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is set to debut later in the future!

We can expect Disney attractions to break down from time to time as machines are not guaranteed to be perfect, these attractions run constantly every single day, and Spaceship Earth is quite an old ride at Walt Disney World. Still, we can agree that Disney does take this into consideration and provides a magical experience even in inconvenient circumstances. Cast Members are the heart of Disney Parks and continue to deliver Disney magic even in unexpected times like these.
