2021 is a very important year for Walt Disney World. In case you weren’t aware, October 1, 2021 will mark 50 years since Magic Kingdom at the Most Magical Place on Earth opened its gates!
And now, we finally have some more details — including dates! — for the 50th anniversary celebrations beginning later this year at the theme parks.
Disney Parks Tease 50th Anniversary
Last night, Disney Parks took to social media to share a sneak peek with fans as to what exactly they can expect from the 50th Anniversary of the Walt Disney World Resort.
As seen in the sneak peek video from social media (below), Guests can expect a deep royal color theming including beautiful shades of purple and blue. This is very similar to the Cinderella Castle makeover as well as the new Magic Kingdom entrance paint job.
These colors carry over into the special celebratory outfits worn by both Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, as seen in the social media preview below.

When Will the 50th Anniversary Celebrations Begin?
Today, on Good Morning America, we got additional details surrounding the 50th Anniversary celebration at Walt Disney World Resort!
Here’s everything we now know surrounding this huge milestone.
Beginning October 1, 2021 and running for 18 months, Walt Disney World will be hosting the celebrations for the 50th anniversary!
Good Morning America referred to the 50th Anniversary as “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” which all begins with a transformation of Cinderella Castle.
Disney Parks Blog writes:
Beginning Oct. 1, Walt Disney World Resort will throw “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” in honor of our 50th anniversary, bringing new experiences to our four theme parks and beyond. This milestone is such a big deal, we’ve even coined a new word – “EARidescence” – to describe what you’ll see when you visit. Our Disney teams are creating all sorts of new decorations that will shimmer and sparkle all day and into the night
Good Morning America also shared that Cinderella Castle will be decorated with ornaments, and attractions like Tower of Terror, the Tree of Life, and Spaceship Earth will all be getting a new look as well!
Disney Parks Blog writes:
As part of the celebration, Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park will add to its royal makeover from last year. As you can see in this new artist rendering, the castle will feature golden bunting and a 50th anniversary crest as part of its festive new look.
The castle will add even more magic at night, joined by icons at each of the other three theme parks as they transform into Beacons of Magic.
Additionally, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, who joined Good Morning America live, will have custom-made looks, featuring “EARidescent” fabric and Cinderella Castle, which you can see in the image below.
We cannot wait to see what’s to come later this year!
